While I don't think anyone here would propose that it should be illegal to be a giant douche, fraud is still motherfuckin' fraud, yo: http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing- ... fraud-case

I suspect Shkrelli's convention is a result of "we don't like him, he has to have done something illegal, so find something to put him in prison with because we can't put him in prison for what we really dislike him for".

Nah, I'm pretty sure he did some illegal stuff, if only in a '3 felonies a day' sense.

From what I read, what he did was completely illegal even if everyone loved the guy. Sort of a Ponzi scheme spread out between at least three different companies: people invested in hedge fund A, he took money out of hedge fund B to pay A's investors, then took funds from pharma company C to pay investors from hedge fund B ... IIRC, there was at least one instance where he told potential investors a given fund had something like $40 million in assets, when in reality it had only a few hundred bucks.

It sounds like he broke a lot of laws.

Well, damn. He should have stuck to manipulating the US pharmaceutical laws.

I don't get it. People are criticizing Tina Fey because they're conservatives who also criticized Hillary Clinton?

I'm guessing Popper drew a distinction between intolerant words and state-sponsored action that is too subtle for these people.

I thought she was very much a lit person. Does she have some relevant background?

I didn't mean my question as disrespect for her. I only asked because I've heard of small departments making, um, creative teaching assignments. A department of 30 faculty can have sub-sub-specialists teach most things. A smaller department sometimes has to do things a bit differently.

yeah, no worries. that happens quite a bit at smaller institutions. They will eventually hire a full time journolo at some point when they launch their comms program, but that's likely a few years off.

on the plus side she gets good guests and folks that we've known throughout the years, so the college bats above its weight in terms of visiting journalists.
