I almost felt sorry for Trump, but only by completely divorcing myself from the context. Like, if it were just "random old man standing at attention for some reason," yeah, I'd feel bad to see his breathing difficulties. And if it were "random old man standing at attention for some heart-rending reason," like say he's the last remaining live veteran of his old Korean War platoon and is at the military funeral of his last surviving war buddy so he can salute his coffin as it goes into the ground, I'd literally be in tears. (Not actively crying, mind you, but some definite excess eye-wetness.)

But regarding that gasping, clearly sick old man on the White House balcony -- any spark of pity gets immediately extinguished when I remember who he is, how he got sick in the first place, and all the other people he's harmed.

[unapologetic Godwin]

If you completely ignore everything you know about Nazis and World War Two and 20th century history in general, I'll bet Hitler's last moments before committing suicide looked pretty pitiful too.

I would love it if he collapsed on stage during a debate. I would put that footage on a loop and go without sleep for 72 hours to watch and rewatch it. And masturbate furiously while watching.

I've often talked to people about trump stroking out during a rally. Friends, strangers, spouses, postal employees, and at least one gay porn actor. Hitting his head on the podium on the way down etc. The gifs it would spawn. Tik tok challenges. The spontaneous celebrations in the street, an American interpretation of a thatcher dance party.

The smiles it brings to people's faces.

What the hell is wrong with his right eye? Did he fall down and hit his face on something, or is it a side effect of the various drugs he's on?

Conjunctivitis is a symptom of Covid. It's why I'm pretty sure Pence will come out as Covid positive in the next few days.

Trump pulls out of virtual debate with Biden, calls it 'waste' of time
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Thursday rejected plans for a virtual debate on Oct. 15 with Democratic rival Joe Biden, a format switch intended to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 in light of Trump’s infection, and said he feels well enough to resume campaign rallies.
I am willing to bet the RNC is happy about Trump pulling out of the debate and a little less happy about the rallies.

Huh. I remember there was a pinkeye outbreak when I was in high school -- I somehow got it too, despite never ever sharing eye makeup with people -- but, while I do remember having a literally pink eye, along with a LOT of my classmates, I don't remember anyone having ANY noticeable facial swelling, let alone swelling as obvious as what Trump has. Did we-all just have a super-minor form of it, or does covid cause a super-nasty version?

(Seriously, I'd never heard of pinkeye -- with prompt medical treatment -- causing any symptoms other than "your eye turns pink.")

"Pink eye" is a lay term for a wide range of conditions resulting in inflammation, redness, and tearing in one or both eyes. I spent two years of my mid-20's with what my doctor called "chronic inflammatory conjunctivitis" that started as a viral infection. (Not a member of the corona virus family, FYI.) A bunch of other things complicated it, and the cornea remained inflamed long after the viral infection had gone away, because I had decreased tear production (unrelated to the virus) and damage on the cornea (caused by the virus). The damaged tissue would get easily inflamed if not properly lubricated with tears.

The conjunctivitis that spreads in schools is usually bacterial. In all likelihood, your pink eye was bacterial, just because most are. People touch their faces and get bacteria in their eyes. The vast majority of bacteria won't hurt the eyes (otherwise we'd all be blind) but a few do.

My understanding is that other things can cause "pink eye" symptoms as well. Think of pink eye not as a single disease but more like a headache or nausea: A symptom that could be caused by many different things.

COVID does a number on numerous tissues in the body, and a certain fraction of people wind up getting inflammation in their eyes from it. The current state of knowledge is that it's a luck of the draw thing, but no doubt we'll eventually learn of factors that predispose some people to get inflammation in different tissues than others.

Facial swelling can happen if whatever is causing the inflammation of the eye is also affecting other tissue around the eye. Sometimes an infection starts in the eye and spreads, other times it starts elsewhere and then goes to the eye. In either event, if both the eye and surrounding tissue are inflamed then both will show symptoms.

BTW, Pence is also a 61 year-old man with a stressful job that involves contact with lots of people, and a boss who strongly discourages anyone from taking basic health precautions. COVID-19 is of course a strong possibility (he works in a viral hot spot) but there are also other things that could easily be wrong with him.

There are actually some doctors theorizing that Covid-19 is a vascular disease rather than a respiratory one, partially because of that variance.

Trump is now claiming to be 'cured' of COVID-19. I would not be surprised to hear of him being rushed to hospital within the next week.

Speaking of masturbating, lotta lefties on my Twitter feed jizzing themselves over Nancy Pelosi tonight. Dudes, she's going to introduce a bill to form a committee to consider the fitness of the president. When you have that many bureaucratic checkpoints to hit, you're not gonna pwn anyone.
