It would be more fabulous if they did, I'll tell you that.

@realDonaldTrump

Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are....
Yes, let's go back to the days when there were more airplane fatalities jackass.
IIRC, Air France 447 - the one that went down in the middle of the Atlantic - was partly caused by the co-pilot holding the yoke back, lifting the nose while the computer was telling them to put the nose down to get out of the stall.

Yup. They had an airspeed sensor frost over in a thunderstorm which led to the autopilot punting control to the pilots who then got confused by the conflicting data, and held the nose up in a controlled stall from 36,000' all the way down to impact with the ocean, never once realizing that they had to nose-down for airspeed.

I've been watching The Smithsonian Channel a lot as it's one of the least awful channels to leave the TV on when the cable box defaults to live TV (it kept ending up on CNN and other sonicly displeasing networks), so I've probably seen about 50 episodes of Air Disasters in the past six months or so, and the number of times pilots played stupid pilot games and killed a shitton of people is ... it's a lot. Like, not setting flaps for takeoff and plowing a loaded 727 off the end of the runway, across a freeway full of cars, and into a natural gas distribution facility.

I’m betting Boeing wishes that the US government’s word still had sway with our allies.

Faulty angle of attack sensor that will adjust for a non-existent stall and point the nose down when not needed. The FAA thinks that proper procedures and disabling the MCAS if it incorrectly activates is sufficient. Usually European and other entities will follow our lead but...

OTOH, Fallows is a pilot and knows his stuff and seems to think the FAA may be doing the right thing.

The problem is the administration has zero credibility.

It normally would be something that the President of the United States undermined public confidence in the entire aviation industry, but I guess that's the advantage of having a complete joke as President.

People who think that they can buy favors from Trump really need to wake up to the fact that fucking over his loyalists is his favorite hobby. Also, Ghina grounded the 737M8 and Trump loves decisive strongarm shit like that.

I didn't realize there had been a plane crash recently and so I thought Trump was just angrily tweeting about planes apropos of nothing. Even for him, that would be weird.

I feel terrible about this but ... all that ever really interested me in this thread was Flynn. What happened to that guy? That story was really interesting. Like how you go from being a distinguished general to doing what seemed to amount to treason.

He got bitch slapped by the judge for trying to rewrite his guilty plea and then poof! Never saw the guy since.

He cooperated. Mueller just said he's done with his testimony, IIRC.

Someone working with Giuliani was dangling a pardon in front of Cohen.

Oh come on man. That’s something you get away with in high school, or at best some blow off class in college. Why can’t I get a boss that doesn’t know that Jabba the Hutt was an intern and instead get the dude who asks why those 7 lines add up to 114 instead of 100*?

And probably Kacey Manlove.
