Conspiracy theory - Mike Pence is paying off the food inspectors to get a grade just good enough to keep M-a-L operational.

From the article:
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?,” Trump reportedly said — referring to African countries, El Salvador, and Haiti.
Uhm....
What's the confusion? The Oxford comma saves the day.
I see that now. Comma or not it doesn't read very well. Something better would be like "referring to El Salvador, Haiti, and African countries."

The other reading wouldn’t have any commas: “African countries El Salvador and Haiti”

Everyone ducks that up though.

The Market should decide on health and safety standards in the Mar-a-Lago kitchen.

Unless foreign leaders are visiting.

But for Trump's personal dinners, let The Market decide. Not the county health inspector, not the Secret Service, just The Free Market. If Trump recently stiffed the kitchen staff, then The Free Market should decide what it means for the poultry to be perfectly cooked.

So if we were to rank presidential scandals 1 through 1000 for each president, is "Trump banging a porn star 3 months after his son was born" at "Obama wearing a tan suit" or "Obama putting his feet up on the desk"?

I think it is more on the level of the David Cameron 'Pig-gate' scandal.

I mean ordinal. Like this is Trump's 70th worst scandal or some shit like that. What's the equivalent 70th worst scandal for Obama? Going on ESPN to fill out a March Madness bracket?

Right. It's a non scandal. Any other guy it'd be a scandal. But Trump is a pig and we all know it already. And he says stupid shit. Every day. Stupid shit. Every day he says stupid shit. I wish to hell people would stop talking about the stupid shit he says every day. As if anyone should pay attention.

The stupid shit was during negotiations on an immigration deal that will affect millions of people. The president saying, "Hey, let's not let people i from shithole countries," while Tom Cotton nods along and torpedoes the agreement is pretty relevant.

Also, people do care about that shit. It's basically how we got W. If the Clinton administration was as relatively squeaky clean as Obama, Gore would have won in an HW level landslide. Trump has basically compressed 8 years of Clinton scandals into less than a year.

For Trump, I think we're going to have to expand that spreadsheet beyond 1,000 rows.

LOL We got W for the same reason we got Trump, Gore was singularly awful. He lost his own state furchristsakes. Clinton's foibles had nothing to do with it.

What bothers me about this is that if he’d said the same thing in prettier language, it wouldn’t be news. You’ve seen this attitude on the left and the right, and this “scandal” is more about a violation of making the subtext text than it is about immigration policy. There is some serious deflection going on in most of, though not all of, the punditariat.

I don't think the language offers sufficiently pretty ways to say "shithole. He didn't say, for example, that he wants "less uneducated" people, or "less unskilled" people (things which a given individual could, perhaps, overcome even in a poor crappy country); he wrote off entire countries and every individual in them, in crude language again underscoring what a bigot he is.

But it has to be called out because we simply cannot let stand the normalization of politicians saying stupid things.

Yeah, I couldn't keep a straight face while saying that.

Huh. This was in the works from back in 2015 but the press release says the recent tax bill. I'm wondering if they are just trying to get ahead of any future nafta issues.
