OFFS: Trump Administration Suspends New Yorkers From Trusted Traveler Programs
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says it will no longer allow New York state residents to enroll in programs intended to expedite international travel because of a state law that blocks immigration authorities from accessing motor vehicle records.

New York's "Green Light" law, which took effect in December, allows immigrants without legal status to apply for driver's licenses. It also includes a provision barring state officials at the Department of Motor Vehicles from sharing data with immigration authorities unless a judge orders them to do so.

Ken Cuccinelli, acting deputy secretary at DHS, told reporters on a conference call Thursday that the state law was "dangerous — really thoughtless in terms of unintended consequences."

"President Trump certainly made it clear that if sanctuary city politicians — and sanctuary state, as well — won't keep their people safe, we'll do the best we can to keep them safe," Cuccinelli said.

In the stack of eyerolly dumb shit that this decision is built on — the existence of Trusted Traveller/PreCheck, the onerous and counterproductive TSA requirements that necessitate it, the very existence of the DHS — I have a hard time saying this is the dumbest. If anything this should be a signal to good faith regulation cheerleaders that your pet program can be politicized by bad actors like Donald Trump.

I'm just glad that the Trump administration is acknowledging how shitty NYC's politicians are.

Prosecutors across the nation are petitioning Bill Barr to resign
Mr. Barr's actions in doing the President's personal bidding unfortunately speak louder than his words. Those actions, and the damage they have done to the Department of Justice's reputation for integrity and the rule of law, require Mr. Barr to resign.
While I feel the DoJ does have a reputation, I don't feel like that is it. The AG in particular has long been the bag man for legally dubious policies and personal vendettas.

I first assumed that Katie Waldman was getting some kind of up-front payoff for marrying racist hobgoblin Stephen Miller. But reading about her background makes this seem like more of a career move. She's Pence's press secretary and now has the ear of Trump's closest advisor. I'm just wondering if she sees an appointment in all of this or if she's just feathering her bed for the inevitable book deal.

At least since Robert Kennedy. I don't know anything about Ike's AG.

To be fair, it is possible that she is sincerely in love. The two of them certainly have compatible values: same callousness toward human life of the wrong ethnic group; same contempt for the majority of post-1950 American social changes....

Nope, sorry. I refuse to believe that Stephen Miller is capable of loving or being loved by another human being.

It's especially suspicious that she's marrying her bosses bosses right hand man during Q1 performance review season.

Do you think she's over-performing at work? That can get you fired in the Trump administration.
