Yeah, I'm convinced the 2020 election will be driven by voter turnout in battleground states regardless of who the Dem's anoint, and it's precisely the sort of women who'd go to Houston to hear prospects who will or will not be doing the get-out-the-vote grunt work, so it's not even a matter of who those women will be voting for or whether they'll be grassroots activists during the campaign but whether they are actually motivated enough when they're knocking on doors to get numbers of folks who gave 2016 a pass to show up this time around.

God damn it, Nick Offerman.

It's not like I thought he was Ron Swanson in real life, but I expected better than this!

Yeah someone invited me to one of his standup shows, so I watched one of his specials.

It's all stuff like that tweet.

It's amazing how many comics from an improv background think, incorrectly, they can do standup. Even with the help of writers.

Remember back in the early days of blogs when PJ media was supposed to be the “prestige” blogging platform and mocked HuffPo? Now HuffPo is legit and PJM is publishing Jacob Wohl fraud.

It’s probably fair to say that Bernie doesn’t care about that part of the electorate that he hasn’t figured out how to talk to black people aside from “I went to the March on Washington when I was in college”. For some reason this comes to mind:

Okay, so Michael Bennet announced today he was in on the donk side for 2020 POTUS. Say it with me now: Who? This brings the count up to what, 21?

Here's what I can't figure out, so you smart people maybe have some ideas I don't: what's the con? We all know most of these people are going to flame out early, and if they have an shred of intelligence or self-awareness, they do, too. So why are they doing it? I don't see what most of these people hope to gain by it. They all can't get the POTUS/VP slot, and most of them won't even get a cabinet slot out of the deal. I am confused by the motivations here.

Book sales, notoriety and a cabinet position. Not all will get a cabinet position, but AG Harris or Klobuchar is a possibility. And Williamson and Yang are in it for the lulz. Let's see what it looks like in December. There should be some thinning out by then.

I am convinced it is mainly an inflated self-opinion fed by their flacks. According to Rolling Stone, there are 20+ declared candidates already. Of those, maybe 5 have national recognition. You really have to be deluded if you think that a few favorable mentions on NBC or CNN are going to allow you to beat those odds.

You don't think Harris will be the nominee? I think she has a biography and appeal close enough to Obama's that nobody will notice the prison labor and she will get the nomination.

Now, I want a Battle Royale format for picking party nominees.

Mandatory for both parties, of course. :D

She’s a strong candidate on paper, but not sure she can close the deal. I wouldn’t bet against her

Saw her on Trevor Noah a couple months back - probably shouldn't underestimate her ability to connect with people.

What happens to campaign funds when lesser candidates drop out? I know they pledge their supporters to a candidate, but do they then pool funds?

Because this could be some sort of DNC multi-pronged fundraising campaign that presents as grassroots but is actually targeting all the core Dem constituencies:

Beto for the Punks
Bernie for the OWS Socialists
Biden for people who can't close a tab without closing the whole browser
Tulsi Gabbard as a Russian hedge (when Putin gets bored with Trump/has no use for him anymore)
Kamala Harris and Cory Booker for POC from two large cities on either coast
Mayor Pete for LGBT
Castro for Hispanic voters
Swalwell for the MSNBC audience
Warren for New England liberals
Hickenlooper for Colorado hippies
Gillibrand for Republican housewives to secretly vote for
Gravel for the five people that remember who Mike Gravel is
Klobuchar for, fuck, I don't know...

I think the flack angle is a bit underrecognized. Yeah, you can't really get paid to run for President, but your senior campaign aides can. So if I could convince someone to run for President, and they can convince some people to give or loan them money, I could get a decent paycheck for a few months 'work'.
