Sanders is apparently trying to show he can play the protectionism game even better than Trump, as he says he would ban GM from Federal contract for the crime of closing US factories and opening Mexican ones.

Since the U.S. government is required by law to buy only 'American manufactured' vehicles, never mind those Japanese and European cars that are actually made in the U.S., it's obvious Sanders is in the pocket of Big Ford.

Does he actually want to win, or does he just want to come in a little behind?

There's an age requirement there. But I don't think Roy Moore cares.

Bernie Sanders did not get a great reception at a female-voters-of-color event.

That aside, I know I'm just a big old libertarian meanie, but I really don't get people who ask stuff like this:
Bernie Sanders “did not present a particular set of policies (to show how he’d tackle racial violence)”, said Sayu Bhojwani...

She asked Sanders what he would to do prevent hate crimes such as the recent burning down of three historically black churches in Louisiana. She found his response vague.
What exactly do people want the President(ial candidate) to say anyway? How exactly is the President supposed to prevent some racist loon from getting a can of gasoline and some matches and burning down a local church? I suppose they're just looking for him to say something that makes it sound like He Really Gets It, regardless of how realistic it is.

I think the only thing you can really say is some mix of "We need A National Conversation On Race and White People Need To Listen..." (because God knows we never discuss that) and "I have supported every piece of hate crimes legislation to come before Congress and as President I would sign an EVEN MOAR TUFF hate crimes law."

Well, if Trump can run into a school to stop a shooter, Bernie can put on a fireman's uniform.

Probably something about treating white nationalists as domestic terrorists would have helped him in that context.

The right answer is "There's no way to prevent crime. But burning a black church is a clear criminal violation of civil rights laws. So I would make sure the FBI and DOJ prioritize working with local law enforcement to investigate, apprehend, and prosecute people who commit hate crimes to the full extent of the law."

You would think a dude planning for 4 years to be president would figure out the hand wavey things to say to a core political constituency that he has to win over. Especially if it was the primary weakness he had last run. It’s probably fair to say that Bernie doesn’t care about that part of the electorate that he hasn’t figured out how to talk to black people aside from “I went to the March on Washington when I was in college”. Like give enough of a fuck to pretend you give a fuck about them.

Counterpoint: black women aren't going to vote for Republicans so who cares what they want to hear

Getting 6 or 7 out of every 100 African american women to stay home is as good as (and far easier than) getting 3 out of 100 to vote for Trump.
