Ahh right. Is it just educational stuff that needs to be addressed or is it other stuff that might somehow make this life at all bearable? Like 9 year old Mary wants to live on the French Riviera and wear chanel and burberry (did I do that right). Intolerable inexcusable restraint that parents are "can't afford" due to other priorities and values?
It's not "restraint." It just causes unnecessary suffering. I mean, I just don't get it. My parents regularly suffered because they didn't have as much money as they might have liked, but for some reason they thought other people would also want to feel that way. They had anxiety about debt and bills and working until they were old; did they think I wouldn't?

What is the "it" that causes unnecessary suffering? I get that not getting everything you want is a kind of suffering. I get that mortgaging the home and future is also suffering. But ... like, you get that resources are finite right? Even if lil Sally REAALLY wants a porsche?

Yeah. Life is suffering bro. Just say no.

ETA: Let me put it this way. My analyst once asked me to imagine myself walking along this nice peaceful empty beach, and I come upon my three- or four-year-old self, crying. She asked what I would say to her to make her feel better. I said, "I'd kill her."

No. It's kinda like knowing there is an asteroid out there with your home's address on it. Not to bloody much you can do about it. If TPTB weren't going to change their ways at 80%, 90% and 100%, they are not going to do so now.

Enjoy the ride down to the pavement.

It's kinda a problem that we never did get our shit together before the boomer pig got into the retirement python.

But on the other hand, the Market (phui) is still pricing 30 year treasuries at 2.75%. (the lowest its been this calendar year) (though you have to go back to Obama's first term for the last time any Treasury instrument had a mark to market interest rate of 4.0% or more - and 2007 for 5.0% & 2002 for 6.0%)

Yeah there's no evidence of big concern in futures or gov debt markets. The concern is if there's a shock we are over leveraged.

Right, the last shock is what caused this overleveraging. If we can muddle through the Boomers dying off, we'll be ok. I'm Jasonite here.

Look at any current discussion of the debt ceiling. Is there any voice of sanity anywhere near a senator or congressional caucus?

The real constraint is and has always been market rate for debt issued. We are being hurt in the more debt sense by tallest midget things as much as anything else. People need treasury type things and the rest of the world is worse for various reasons so we win/lose with low prices.

Looking at the quarterly char, there was a big bump post great recession and a flattening since 2013. Thing I hate is doing stimulative behavior, like tax cuts or infrastructure, during a peak rather than doing counter-cyclical cuts. A revenue neutral reform is fine, but straight cuts should be shelved for now.
