I got Mo's point, but I didn't get Jason's cryptic response. I think Warren was similarly confused.
I would think it was a kind of no comment as he does manage their 401k.

That's how I interpreted Jason's comment.

American life expectancy is trending downward, driven by drug an increase in overdoses and suicides
Nationwide, 70,237 people died following a drug overdose in 2017, a 9.6-percent increase over 2016, when there were 63,600 fatal drug overdoses, according to federal data. The rate of 2017 deaths linked to drug overdose was 21.7 per 100,000 deaths — a startling rise from 1999, when the rate was 6.1 per 100,000 deaths.

In a supplementary report comparing trends in drug overdose deaths from 1999 to 2017, the highest rates of drug overdose deaths were found among adults between ages 25 and 54, the report said. These years tend to be those when people hit their peaks personally and professionally — forging new careers, forming romantic partnerships, having children and achieving that “potential.”
Last year, 47,173 Americans killed themselves, the latest federal data shows, marking a 3.7 percent increase from the previous year. More dramatically, suicide rates have risen 33 percent nationwide since 1999, from 10.5 to 14.5 per 100,000 deaths, with significant discrepancies between genders and among different communities.

It tends to co-occur with the opioid crisis, and is driven by similar factors.

So these "suicides" are unintentional overdoses?

Not always or necessarily. My understanding is that there is a higher instance of intentional suicide also.

No idea. It could be the conservative narrative about frayed social fabric and loss of local institutions of church and family for people who can't find community elsewhere. It could be frozen identity of manly man man in power against a backdrop of social and economic change - the lost privilege story plus something about the kind of work real men do is not what is needed right now. Could be curse of long term unemployment for general reasons - too much idle time. Could be loss of testosterone on a different order than what was historically the case due to ... something.

I have no idea.

Nearly 2/3 of all deaths by firearm are suicides.

This is hands down the best argument against gun control.

Also the best argument for gun control; my understanding is that gun control is a lot more effective at reducing suicide than at reducing homicide.

How you evaluate this depends a lot on what you think about suicide with regard to public policy.

Well, BTC moves 80% on the regular. How often do you get a 3% move on the DOW?
For the record, it's a little early for hysteria. Have to wait till Thr. to see what happens after Bush the Greater Day.
