Tried again. Got farther, but crashed before finishing, I think. The container file size is less than the DVD, in any case. Installing Handbrake for a trial run.the innominate one wrote: ↑19 Sep 2017, 21:07Thanks. VLC crashed after a few hours. I'll try something else. I'll check out MakeMKV.

Handbrake doesn't want to copy my DVDs, apparently because of DRM protection.

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
Hmmm, from what I researched it looks like I want a minimum of 1500-2000 lumens, which is doable for the bargain ~$100 models, but yeah, HD is where I'm getting tripped up. Bargain models with HD bump it up to the $150-200 range, which is more than I wanted to spend. Then again, watching a dvd upscaled on an HD tv isn't so bad. I'm just wondering how 480p would look blown up to a screen that's going to be larger than our 37 inch tv.

If you spend the extra, you can probably use it inside, too. Increases the use situations.

It's gonna look like blurry ass. You won't want to watch it. You'll feel like you wasted your money, and say "I think I'll go inside and watch this."dead_elvis wrote: ↑27 Oct 2017, 15:10Hmmm, from what I researched it looks like I want a minimum of 1500-2000 lumens, which is doable for the bargain ~$100 models, but yeah, HD is where I'm getting tripped up. The other guy I know who's done this spent about 600 dollars on his projector, which is 1920x1080 native resolution and 3000 lumens. He says that you at least want the brightness, even if you maybe skimp on the resolution, but not down to 800x600.

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
I've found some 720p (or 800 or 768 etc.) native that I could maybe swing, but 1080 native is probably out of the budget.
What I do wish is that as long as we have laws about fraud and advertising could we please ban the phrase "supports 1080" because it makes it impossible to search easily. Have to click on every model and try to see through their bullshit. And Amazon has filters for every spec except native resolution, which I find totally bizarre.

My only advice when it comes to electronics is figure out what you want first and then look at the price and if it's too much, walk. Don't buy something cheaper that doesn't entirely meet your needs. You'll just end up frustrated with lighter pockets.

I've been kind of looking for bluetooth headphones that are not earbuds and not massive over-the-ear cans. Has anyone ever seen any bluetooth headphones that are more like the older style on-the ear, lightweight headphones? I've seen some on-the-ear ones, but they have big foam pads and talk about noise isolation. I want less noise isolation, because I want to use them at work and be able to hear when someone's saying my name.

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
Running ones are probably a good bet because they'll be lightweight and also (hopefully) designed to let you hear your surroundings more.

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
I just got these not long ago. Like you I don't like to be cut off from the outside world. I wear these all day at work. They aren't on all the time. Maybe several hours a day though with no need to charge during the day. They link fast and seem to have a decent range. They also have a decent top end volume if you do need to drown out something loud, something my previous Bluetooth headphones couldn't do. Only downside is the button response can be a bit laggy so you can't rapidly tap them to turn the volume up or down. Comes with a nice little case as well.
Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
Plus they are dylan and therefore spit hot fire.
Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
For whatever reason, I couldn't see any images / links you guys put up. I can if I quote your post.

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
It seems like the board is turning our (amazon?) links into some sort of weird embed which is then not showing up.
I meant to just give an amazon link to the thing I bought. I was wondering why I got that big space, but I was too in a rush to check.
Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread
Yeah I just put in the link and it embedded the picture in place. I can see the picture without problems.

Bought them earlier this year. They're pretty good. Fidelity is not great but pretty good for bluetooth, and sometimes I need to reboot them because of delay. Big drawback is that you can't recharge them and use them at the same time.

Annoying feature: they talk to you. "Power on. Device one connected. Battery high." "Call terminated" (particularly irritating as I don't use them for calls) and if the battery is low she's going to tell you about it every two minutes.
