She's a "performance artist", something that probably surprises nobody.

Hard to tell. I mean, she has a lot of name recognition and was widely feted, so for all I know she sells her artwork and has grants and so forth. Oh, and I also learned that they prefers the pronoun they, and they identifies as queer and gender-nonconforming.

No, I don't. And given how much you go on with complete certainty about shit you don't actually even vaguely know, it seemed like an apropos question.

Well, I wouldn't be the first or twentieth person here to make that observation, so it's not terribly original work.

Now do you have any evidence for your deep certainty that this person is lying about having been raped, or is this just knee-jerking on your part because performance art/protest/liberal arts/etc.? Because to my knowledge, it's a messy he-said/they-said. However, I'm perfectly willing to allow that I might have missed something

I would say that the case has enough uncertainty about it that I can make the following statements:

1) I'm quite comfortable with the decision of Columbia and the DA to not pursue punishment for the accused.
2) I'm quite uncomfortable with the de facto punishment he's suffered from being in the spotlight.
3) I'm uncomfortable making him a cause celeb among due process advocates. It's one thing to say he shouldn't be punished, and another to focus on him as a victim. We don't know enough to be confident that he's the person we want to stake our image on. There are plenty of people in this world who shouldn't be punished, but not all of them would be good poster children. I think Emily Yoffe has done a good job of identifying cases where I'm more comfortable saying that the guy was wronged and taking a risk on using him as an example to garner sympathy.

Team Thoreau. The accusations from three different people make me wary of the guy and less than convinced that he's some innocent angel, but that's certainly not a standard fit for due process.

As to Sulkowicz's career as a performance artist...

Her father is a psychiatrist who runs a consulting firm. He advises companies on how to apply psychological insights to leadership.

So I am not surprised that her career involves getting attention for things that are pitched as profound but lack substance.

I would need to reread about the case to come to a firmer conclusion, but the lack of charges by the prosecutor is a big tell for me. Given they usually take the "charge them all and let the jury sort it out" attitude (which then often leads to the accused taking a plea to a lesser and the prosecutor getting to claim a conviction), not filing charges says a lot about the case.

Since the post-New 52 reboot he has been the leader of the mixed Green Lantern and Sinestro Corps.

Yeah, Stewart is doing more behind-the-camera stuff now, including directing a comedy due for release next year. He did a stand-up tour with Dave Chappelle last year and, of course, keeps popping up on talk shows and such. When he left The Daily Show, he was the highest-paid personality on TV, so rather like Conan after taking the Tonight Show cash after being let go, he's not exactly scrambling around looking for a gig. And he's in his mid-50s, which is a sort of twilight zone for comedians these days.
