I'm curious if anyone has tended bar- do employers support you if you cut someone off, or is there pressure to keep serving?
They do if they value their liquor license. Too many DUIs originating from your bar=liquor control board showing up and asking uncomfortable questions about your business practices.

Being cut off is a set of bar specific norms I think based on conversations with a friend who owns my local watering hole. There are factors like how young your crowd is, how surly they are, etc. Sometimes its "we know how that person gets after X drinks". The call is usually pretty obvious. It only gets contentious with management if it's a regular who comes in with a regular crowd - you have to cut off with white gloves in those situations.

91% of recycled plastic was never actually recycled.

This is my shocked face :|

OMFG it's a bona fide CRISIS I'll have you know.
An unfolding crisis

With virtually no domestic recycling options for a sizable portion of the plastic the public tries to recycle, those watching closely speak of an industry in crisis.

“Most people have no idea that most plastic doesn’t get recycled,” said John Hocevar, the Oceans Campaign Director for Greenpeace USA, referencing a study which found that just 9% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled.
Actually, I'm astounded that the percentage is that high.

Wait, is it that 9% of all plastic submitted for recycling was recycled, or 9% of all plastic made was recycled? These numbers are different, unless 100% of all plastic ever made was turned in for recycling.

Since you asked for it: it was a joke referencing The Graduate. Given the discussion of plastics, DAR linked it to the well-known advice that Hoffman's character received in said movie. When you complained, he even more directly referenced it without fully giving it away.

Hmmm. It's a mashup of The Graduate and Chinatown.
Doesn't really work IMHO. But you figured it out, so I must be slipping.

I do. It ruins the joke. But I didn't pick up on the fact it was a joke and also, it's okay to explain the joke to me if I don't get it.

Can we please just admit that coal is never coming back and allow towns to die? No one is going to buy those homes, businesses, or anything. We used to do it.

Gillette is still a big oil/gas hub. Stayed there for the eclipse and the hotel was brand new, one of a few new hotels, and pretty nice. And a brand new Old Chicago. Which...

So it'll be a while before the whole thing dies completely.

Yeah if they started trying to make wind power a thing out there. Which they won't. And I'm not even sure about the power potential of wind out there simply because there is nothing out there needing power except the mining setups.

You can transmit wind power a long ways. We could use Wyoming wind power here no problem. But IIRC Wyoming actually has penalties for power companies that don't use enough coal or oil/gas. Too much renewables and you have to pay a fee.

Would you rather have an energy policy set by coastal libruls? They'd probably refuse to let The Market decide!
