Kurds respond:
The Syrian Democratic Forces — the blanket group that emerged four years ago, led by the Kurdish YPG as a trusted ally of the U.S. — reacted with deep dismay, saying it had hoped the U.S. "would fulfill its obligations to mediate a political solution from all sides to stop war."
Bless their hearts.

The SDF on their home field against Turkish forces which just had a significant portion of their intelligence and air command capabilities taken away is possibly a fair fight.

The US isn't actually going to stay out of it. There are still three bases there, and all those Syrian refugees to consider.

It's kind of amazing that zero percent of the responses to Robby point out that the US is still embroiled in like half a dozen voluntary conflicts.

Would someone please clarify for me:
1) Which President in the last 100 years has not sided with an authoritarian regime?
2) Which President in the last 100 years has not left close allies in the lurch?

But yeah fucking over some local minority and leaving them to be crushed is pretty much a mainstay of American foreign policy.

Pretty much everything Kurd-related in the news this week.

If you disagree, feel free to lay out why, but I'm not playing Socratic Method today.

I'm not sure you can have it both ways. Any departure ever is going to leave kurds in the lurch vis a vis Turkey. Reckless maybe, but compared to when? Am I supposed to pretend Erdogen is going somewhere?

Yeah, I mean. The Kurds are fucked. But we're not the ones fucking them. And the Mid East is just a Nothing Good Will Come of Getting Involved zone. The less involved in the Mid East we are the better.

You can secure agreements before pulling out rather than just pulling the rug out. At the very least, you can allow the Kurds to reestablish their defensive fortifications that you told them to dismantle. This was an especially egregious fucking over of regional allies, even by American standards.

Thanks.

You can’t, however, blame the media for this one. Refreshingly, many mainstream outlets have been reporting on this escalation for months if not years. From Foreign Policy to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal to Fox News, The Washington Post to CNN, the issue is getting coverage. Whether Americans care or not is another story.

You believe wrongly. See the drone thread, where you blew it off as propaganda months ago.

Ah, now you remember.

Of course, you could approach it from the other direction—what evidence, if any, is there to support your smell-/gut-based assumption that Trump has decreased use of dronemurder, given your incredulity that it's the same or greater?
