Re: Horrible, Offensive Geekery

On a somewhat related note, a friend and I were talking about batteries and energy density this weekend, noting that the energy density of batteries is quite low compared to, say, gasoline. A gasoline-powered cell phone would be hilariously awesome, and it made me think that a great dieselpunk proj...

We had a couple of pieces of siding replaced when the new deck was installed. You can totally tell... if you're looking for it. House is white vinyl well yellowed with age. New siding is bright white next to it. But you still wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it. Probably because it's down ...

One reason I'm wary of doing a "regular" steampunk costume is that I'm going to be so hugely pregnant by then (hell, I'm hugely pregnant now). Obviously there were plenty of pregnant people in the Victorian era. But it feels weird and stressful to try to dress like a typical character and then be "...

I've had a summer of annoying insect bites, in some cases pretty bad. Was a bit of a mystery as it seemed to be in the house- bedroom particular. Bites not consistent with spider or bedbug profiles - more like mosquitoes but I haven't seen any. Against the white backdrop of my comforter this mornin...

Re: cars and how they get that way

There is a huge Not-Invented-Here attitude within highway organizations. They almost need to be convinced they came up with an idea on their own. It's almost worse if it's something that is effective other places, because it's like they "lost" or something. But ramp metering is such a horrible idea...

So I'm caught up in my video game. I'm thinking it's three o'clock, three thirty at the latest, when a disembodied voice calls out "Are you making supper?". "What time is it?" I inquire. "Five o'clock" comes the reply. "Oh Shit" says I. Forty minutes later I've got dinner on the table. Like A Boss. ...
