Re: Leaps of Illogic That Leave You Powerless to Respond

While arguing the case for non-interventionism with some friends, I noted that Muslim fundamentalists aren't very interested in attacking Switzerland (or at least they weren't before the minaret thing). Now, there are many responses that could be made, but one of my friends is fixated on the fact t...

Re: The Libertarian Party

For all it's faults, the LP is still a bizzilion times better than any other option. If you're not part of the solution, you are the fucking problem. I'm not aware that they're part of any solution. Yep. Colloidal silver is a suspension, not a solution. Now, if we were talking about silver ions, th...

I watched Menace II Society last night. I tried to enjoy it, but I made the mistake of watching Don't Be a Menace to South Central while Drinkin Your Juice in the Hood . The latter really wasn't that funny, but it did a good job of pointing out all of the clichés in the at-risk urban black youth ge...

Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread

I do neither. I do, however, watch a fair amount of video online. *shrug* Maybe it's no big deal, but the computer just seems, um, sluggish given the higher performance scores for the CPU, etc. The 9300 should support hardware decoding of h264 video. Without this, online flash video (such as Hulu) ...

What do you use your computer for? Unless you're gaming or doing 3D modelling video cards are seldom the weak link. For video playback (including flash) it's nice to have a card that supports hardware acceleration of decoding etc of HD content.

Hammett's pretty much solely responsible for the invention of the modern American detective story but he reads to me more like a period author now. Especially by contrast to his greatest fan, Chandler, whose prose still sounds, at least to my ear, modern if not contemporary. Both Hammett and Chandl...

I watched the last presidential candidate election for the LP on a live stream. The Mass Chair described his state delegation as "majority pagan" and used that as justification for a dissenting vote of some type. Told me all I needed to know about the LP. :)

So I just finished reading John Fante's Ask the Dust . I would have hurled it across the room at great speed had I not borrowed it from a friend. My kingdom for a well-written book about or set in Los Angeles. After that I read the Marvel Civil War HC which, like most summer "event" stories, left m...

Being hassled at the checkout for donations is pretty bloody rude. It's a dickish store policy.

My local supermarket (Waitrose) gives a certain proportion of revenues to local charities and gives customers (seemingly at random) tokens with which to choose amongst a varying selection of them.

Apparently coined by some wanking academic mumbler named Harold Bloom. bruh, bloom is a lot of things (a dick, mostly) but mumbling is not one of his things. he's probably the most strident living lit critic, especially palatable for those in the "oh noes marxistos" camp. I just meant that I couldn...
