Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

Covid-19 as a superspreading virus ...10 percent of infected people were responsible for 80 percent of new infections. Fuck. It's gay men isn't it? This is their revenge for teh AIDS. I've got to quit missing meetings. How you expect to promote the Agenda if you never go to meetings 6?

It's almost all of the professional class that had to pass some kind of intensive exam or get a specialized degree and then yes technical field professionals and academics. You have a front row to all of these people in financial services because they all want to tell you how it really works.

85% lean is going to be dry at medium or more done. Grass fed tends to be more lean, and I like the flavor but I'd still seek no more lean than 80/20.

I don't really get deviled eggs. I love eggs, but those I don't get. Probably the mayo but also just meh. I would way WAY prefer a lava textured "soft" yolk egg and a bit of crunchy salt.

Re: Inequality

“Over the past few decades, we find that about 80% of the widening residual wage inequality to be within jobs.” This is a story I think a lot of people get wrong. The effects of your performance on output are very different by role - a cashier example used in the comments is doing piecemeal work you...

Yup. Everyone working against sanity because they are able to mask costs punt them to other people etc. Lot of financial crisis logic embedded.

Re: Whither the GOP? (post-Trump edition)

Frankly I've become impressed and depressed by the potency of the administrative state and economic lever pulling to mask underlying conditions for periods of time. Another way of saying this is we could hold the line on immigration and just MMT our way into economic judgement day.

Re: Whither the GOP? (post-Trump edition)

Immigration will have no friends at all to the extent it did. We will be talking about how nicely to escort people out and whether people already here can stay here with DACA and such, and the side saying escort nicely and DACA get to stay will be considered pro immigration but nobody will support s...

Re: Random covid-19 observations

I've been mildly obsessed with the credibility crisis angle for most of the year. I see people do this stuff, then they have the audacity to look you in the eye, call you a denier and ask of the cosmos why don't people trust science and experts lol they so dumb. You think people don't notice when yo...

Re: Random covid-19 observations

Can I just say I despise everything about the underlying premises in stories like that. Hey government, hey authority figures, STFU about what you think I might do with actual information, give me actual information and maybe I won't bitch so much about your "expertise".

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

Shem makes a fair point - the incentives appear to be that holding power isn't as good as punting accountability if you are a politician in our system and you have a population that simply goes along with the idea that everything should be reflected in the federal government and the executive in par...

Bluntly we have insisted that the feds do things that we once thought it was pretty clear they weren't supposed to do. Because outcomes.

No, it's more of a clarification in my view that distributed and oppositional power isn't structurally a problem if accountability lines are clear.

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

I don't think the issue of oppositional power bases is as much of an issue as the post great society accountability and sphere of control squish. States suck in significant part because there are national programs that they get to blame for local problems. People in general have national views of pr...

The arm brace exemption is a running joke going back a decade or more. It's just one of many examples of people making things that work around your specifications of scary hardware.

Re: Calling 2020 for Entropy

Thanks! I'm certainly open, and it does depend on in the process risk biz what you'd call the control environment. I worry about a set of controls designed for small X falsification attempts and how it handles large X. This is a big part of my business and my job in figuring out processes. So, for e...

Is ... is trump actually right about mail in voting? I'm not sure we will need it, and I understand the argument about low incidence of voter fraud historically, but there are sensitivities to scale in every control environment. I'm not at all sure we have a set of quality mechanisms to deal with a ...

Thanks! That was interesting. I have a lot of thoughts about that. For one, there's this thing about referring to the Order as a thing with its own desires and so forth "that would suit the liberal order fine", but that isn't what it really is. It's a network of institutions and agreements which ent...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

The box in the US large carriers is a loose standard. One of the things I hate about discount carrier models is they turn it into a strict standard. All we should care about is does it fit nose to tail in an overhead of a plane that has that kind of bin.

Regarding fees - all airline behavior all the time forever is one of 3 things: - don't piss off power users - minimize empty seats on all flights but especially prime routes - gas Discount carriers don't price discriminate enough to care about the first so they throw that out. Also Southwest hasn't ...

Interesting. 24 hours before my flight is probably my most stressed out time. At the airport, zero stress. Although I do get annoyed when airlines don't kick people off who have too-big carryons.
