Re: Orange is the new President

I know Trump likes to shoot off at the mouth but that would show an amazing lack of self preservation even by him. Especially someone in no way guaranteed the presidency or other legal cover. "A guy hoping to be elected -- especially one seeking votes from right-wing 'We love the troops'-types -- w...

Maybe he's so brazen because he knows that his fans won't care one bit and his putative detractors will explain that it couldn't possibly mean what you think it means because nobody would be that dumb. Actual Twitter transcript discussing Trump's CNN lie: ME: Trump just accused CNN of cutting off t...

Re: Orange is the new President

A day or so before he pardoned Arpaio, I watched a live broadcast of Trump's rally in IIRC Phoenix on CNN. Specifically, I watched on CNN while Trump told the Phoenix audience that CNN and other liberal fake-news sites just cut the live feed of said rally, because the Fake News Media doesn't want Am...

Re: Orange is the new President

We know that Trump's son and campaign manager met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, as well as a few other people, arranged via Trump friends with contacts in Russia, because she supposedly had dirt on Clinton. We knew that when this meeting was arranged, an associate of the Trump family wrote: This is o...

Re: Orange is the new President

It looks like trolling? I know TDS is a thing on both sides of the aisle, but ... Can't quite tell if serious. Because a better answer is...he was publicly conspiring with the Russians? That seems a lot more far fetched than he was trolling. Further down on Julian Sanchez's tweet thread, he suggest...

And on top of that... Turns out I actually own three such shirts with buttons high on the sleeves; when I dyed my bad-color shirts last night, turns out one of the formerly ugly-green, now attractive-blue, shirts has it as well. And -- this is not something I "learned" so much as "figured out" -- it looks MUCH better if...

Re: Petty annoyances

Moderate drinking is fine if you're already feeling good and would like to feel better (or if you're with friends and want to loosen up a little, be quicker to laugh at their jokes or whatever), but using it because you feel bad and want to feel good, or seek to "fix" social anxiety thereby, is far ...

Re: Legal Eagle Question

To be fair, back in 2002 the statement "Donald Trump, president of the United States" also would've resulted in laughter. (And any claims that said POTUS would implement kiddie concentration camps where baby prisoners went months without ever being bathed would be considered unrealistic paranoia.)

Re: Tiny Triumphs

Ever since I moved to Atlanta and realized the summertime wardrobe I'd bought in more northerly climates is thoroughly inappropriate for the Deep South, I've been visiting thrift stores and buying lightweight linen and silk garments to replace the humidity-hoarding cotton I had before. Since I was g...

Re: You Learn Something New Every Day

I can't help wondering: had Jeff not shown me this, how long would it have taken before I discovered the inner cloth buttonhole-strip? Once I did, I'm sure it would've taken me very little time to figure out what it was for -- but I must've worn each shirt at least three times, and never noticed the...

Re: You Learn Something New Every Day

Two of the long-sleeved linen shirts I've bought for extreme-hot-n-humid conditions have buttons above the elbows on their sleeves. I thought those were so you could roll up the sleeve and then put the elbow-button through the buttonhole on the cuffs to keep the sleeves in place; I never could fold/...

Is it dry or humid where you are? If it's a dry heat you could at least set up a makeshift swamp cooler.

I've been hearing thunder for the past hour and more, as storms keep rolling by but not actually hitting where I live. But the temperatures have dropped to only the mid-70s! It's daylight hours in July, and I actually have the AC off and the windows open! Woo hoo! (It's still muggy as hell, but so l...

Sometime in the past couple years -- after moving to Atlanta -- Jeff and I were watching an old talk show whose host (maybe Dick Cavett?) was interviewing a pre-"Wrath of Khan," pre-"Fantasy Island" Ricardo Montalban, who talked about bullfighting -- and made a point of saying something a la "Now th...

Re: If We Build It, They'll Probably Still Come

The thing about body lice is that (duh) if one kid is infested, it's a sure bet that lots of kids are. And IIRC, body lice is far worse than head lice, because head lice will "only" make your head horribly itchy, whereas body lice spreads all sorts of wretched diseases, including typhus. MAKE AMERIC...
