When I was much younger, it was the only way to get to the keg party unless you had friends with boats in the salt pond.

Re: What are YOU looking at?

My one guilty pleasure of reality shows is Top Chef.

I almost hit the floor last night when I realized that a current contestant, Angelo Sosa, was the same kid I took classes with in the culinary program at Manchester Community College.

Re: I declare "Wall-E" to be an unofficial sequel to "Idiocr

Wall-E is similar to Full Metal Jacket in that it seems to be two movies in one. The first half, before Wall-E leaves the planet, is simply brilliant-as good as anything Pixar has done, and that's saying something. The second half is merely very, very good. Agreed. I liked Wall-E very much. Never s...

Re: The Popular Front

Picked radical-lib, but like others, am very sympathetic to the an-cap ideal.

I've mentioned previously my desire to move onto a boat and sail away. I really think that is one of the few choices left for folks that wish to live a self-directed life.

Re: "Robust"?

I love a good turkey burger, and will order it anytime I am given the option. It has a different flavor than beef to be sure, but flavorless it ain't. We've made turkey burgers before that were pretty tasty. Of course, all the flavor came from the Worcestershire, garlic and onion flakes, thyme, and...

Re: "Robust"?

bacon is the most overrated thing since lolcats. i'll eat it once or twice a year but not real jazzed. pork spare ribs are another story, but i eat those so infrequently that the story is more like a 5x7 glossy postcard. regular pork tastes like a salt mine. Whoa... then wherever you get your pig f...

I'm a bit envious of you guys still playing real PnP RPGs. I haven't sat in with a group since high school days in the '80s. But I've kept my RPG interest fulfilled by various CRPGs since then, including various MMOs with the same bunch I used to sit around a table with.

I watched Eagle Eye last night because... well, I just didn't care. After the reveal of who/what was pulling all the strings, and what for, I found myself rooting for them rather than Shia LaBoooooof and the chick trying to stop it. edit - I also watched The Time of the Wolf , a French post-apoc fli...

Random Beck-related anecdote: A good friend of mine is canceling his Sirius radios subscription, which he got solely to follow Howard Stern, because they decided to give Beck a channel. This is the same guy who was convinced it'd be another 30 years before we saw a black man as president during the...

We had the same problem when we were first married and living in a garden apartment complex. The solution: [Habachi!] As might be expected, I don't like gas outdoor grills. They're heavy and expensive and, besides, the fuss and mess of the briquettes and such is all part of the fun of cooking outdo...

It's the brow and jawlines. And the 'hiding the frank-and-beans-area' pose combined with the hiding-the-adam's-apple-area choker. However, there's pretty much no doubt that the cleavage is organically grown, not factory-farmed. Yeah. My initial impression was "well, there's a tranny". @ Hugh - LMAO!

That may be part of the problem, though. People don't like saying, "I don't know." An engineer that will tell you "I don't know" is very disciplined. There is a strong drive to have the answer within the profession. I assume that scientists studying climatology have similar incentive not to be seen...

Citing a place like Somalia as an example of the sort of "anarchy" libertarians want or will inevitably create is both fallacious and racist. It's a big No True Scotsman thing to deny that clans and warlord rule are governments based on systems and norms going back at least hundreds of years, and i...
