Re: Petty annoyances

After I bought my first house, I found nice-looking racks in Pier 1 Imports. Bought a couple and secured them above the stove as that seems to be the traditional place for them. Within a few weeks, had them filled with the most common stuff I use regularly. However, I found that by having the racks ...

I thought the Exclusionary Rule was based on evaluating searches with respect to the 4th Amendment. So if something was obtained in violation of the 4th, then it was excluded. Now they're saying that the 4th doesn't apply, so when they find something, well, the 4th doesn't apply, so the 'search' wa...

There's a river in Connecticut pronounced "Thames" rather than "Temz," which always sounds wrong to me.
Heh, as a native, I grew up on the pronunciation of Thames (rhymes-with-James) and was really taken aback to discover the British pronunciation.

Many of our less polished locals are also guilty of indiscriminately inserting 'R's into anything containing the word 'wash', but I guess that's not quite the same thing. My step-sister used to do this. Washington D.C or the State of, was "Warshington." The President was pronounced correctly though.

In other Connecticut education news, the House just passed a bill allowing for in-state levels of tuition for the state colleges and universities to undocumented students who have attended 4 years of high school and can show residency. OTOH, homeless mom may go to prison for 'stealing' an education ...

Teenager barred from the prom = slavery. I saw the CT legislator actions wrt the Promtroversy, while no doubt grandstanding as the species is wont to do, as nonetheless a stab at rolling back zero tolerance a bit. YMMV. Hmm... hadn't considered that angle. I saw it more as a federalist issue, albeit an intrastate one, i.e., state gov horn...

Very nice Jason. I'd add onion powder to the 'sweet' category, as weird as it sounds. Don't use it as a substitute for actual onions, mind, but as a subtle sweetener for acidic things to just take the edge off. Classic, for me, is simple tomato sauce. Rather than adding a bit of white sugar to smoot...

I would point out that you don't run into this sort of thing if you just play your video games on a console, but I have to go because my PS3 is running again after Fallout 3 froze it up. I prefer PC gaming simply because there is a lot more variety and modding ability for PC. Some of the fan-made m...

I dunno.... it's been 3-1/2 years since Episode 2 and in that time they've released L4D, L4D2, and now Portal. After reading the Kotaku thing, I've lost all hope.
