A presumably private, cash-only Canadian hospital operating outside the system is hardly a violation of his principles. It's private, but neither cash-only nor outside the system. They're grandfathered in, so they take private and public insurance both. “This is more fake news on a story that has b...

I will accept the amendment that 'yea' means 'aye' or 'yes' in voting contexts and that I dislike its use in all other contexts. It's the they'retheretheir of y-words that aren't your/you're.

They almost certainly can't be in-network, and Canada does NOT just give free non-emergent-care to tourists and very recent immigrants (when my employer was transferring my job to Canada one of the things they pointed out was that they were including three months' medical insurance to cover the gap ...

Re: Libertarian Diskanen
I think eliminating employer-provided coverage would go a long way toward doing that. People will be much more aware of the cost/service curve when they have to shop for themselves. And I suspect that doctors would offer cash discounts for routine procedures, up to the point where the only time you...

Kind of? The flexibility in trained staff isn’t adequate for variability in call volumes in many cases. I might buy that if I didn't get that message every friggin' time. When you have millions of customers, the load is statistically very predictable. They didn't say higher-than-predicted call volu...

The sonic thumbscrews thing - especially the use of said thumbscrews in hotels and so forth - just seems so far fetched that I'd be 'um no' without legit proof that that's what happened. It smells like pseudoscience/scifi BS. Sure, it seems that we actually tried to assassinate Castro with a trick c...

I've lost patience with the "taxation is theft" true believers. I'm convinced they're sincere about it though. They have a consistent anarcho-capitalist vision of libertopia. I'm a big fan of the invisible hand, wisdom of crowds, and even a common law approach to judicial theory, but the whole anar...

Re: Libertarian Diskanen
I see standard libertarianism as a means for approaching/analyzing policy questions. It's a series of questions to ask of a political question. "Is this a problem?" "Is it a bad enough problem for government to attempt to solve it?" "What is the least interventionist method for government to use in ...
