Re: Orange is the new President

Stewart is fine by me because she wasn't even charged with a crime. She didn't have real insider knowledge of the company she traded, and didn't have any real duty not to act on the tip that the CEO was dumping his stock for some unknown reason. But Comey just couldn't leave well enough alone, so h...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

Well crap. I just found out that Fox has cancelled Lucifer. It happened the week that the finale aired. They did this big story arc and left it at a cliffhanger figuring that there was no way Fox would dump them. My clue was this past Monday's episode was actually two episodes, back to back, and no...

Re: Music for the Masses

I liked the better elements of the jam period, especially middle Phish, Col Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Blues Traveler. Most of the rest did little for me. Phish actually did some interesting stuff in the Picture of Nectar and Rift period. And yeah the concerts were good parties,...

Re: Small joys and random good things

This is a story with a happy ending , and one of the central characters is actually my wife's sister. tl;dr version: 25 years ago or so, she was walking through a field and found a Purple Heart. It had a name on it, but she was never able to find the owner or any relatives. A while back, she starte...

If you are not married to a rubberized comfort sole, the me the bond saddles are the signature shoe bass makes. All the colors are nice. Possibly, but Sykes and at least a couple of cast members were headed for the doors when ABC pulled the plug. It's an open question whether the show can be kept together even if they were to find a new home.

It took me a bit to figure out how to parse that so that the man was the subject of 'ravages' instead of 'flood'. It seems pretty cromulent to me, and you have to kind of squint and tilt your head to make it wrong.

On a sadder note, his body has been found.

I've had to divert a few times going in to DFW due to storms. Texans don't do that lightly.

I've heard of Phoenix having flight restrictions due to excess heat because it then results in air too thin for sufficent lift at full load.
Yeah, but that's at like 110+.
Yup. The edge of the envelope for the planes in question was at 118F and the temps there were 120F.

What happens if the US doesn't impose an oil embargo on Japan, Japan doesn't attack Pearl Harbor, and the US support for the war against Hitler doesn't go past Lend Lease? England negotiates a deal with Hitler, who essentially rules Continental Europe at least until he attacks Russia. Japan becomes...

Clickhole's is fairly epic.

Confession, for a while I wasn't wholly certain that GDPR wasn't some annoying millennial ahistorical nostalgia for the German Democratic Peoples' Republic.

You might as well say your fancy two-pieces-of-bread-around-a-filling is a "layered wrap" and not a sandwich.
Somebody is about to do this, I'm sure. Maybe they already have.
Only if you put pineapple on it. Pineapple doesn't belong on a real sandwich.

Yeah, that's what bugs me. It's not 'keep politics completely off the field' but rather 'we don't like your specific politics so keep that off the field but feel free to reinforce the dominant narrative.'

Not that anyone really wanted a contemporary clone of Lost In Space , but we start with the problem that the 'reboot' isn't Lost In Space . I was ready to write it off after three episodes, but I let it run into the fourth episode while paying attention to something else and it somehow caught my at...

My experience with peel-and-stick vinyl tiles is that I put some in the cabinet under the kitchen sink to cover up a stain from a leak a long time ago. Not too hard to deal with, but once they stick, they're stuck.
Which is why I cannot be involved in their install.

Re: Star Trek Wankery

The writing for TOS was pretty bad. There'd been 20 years of narrative development in television between the end of TOS and the start of TNG. Which makes it mysterious why the firs couple of seasons of TNG were so dire , writing-wise. Well, people didn't quite understand that you could do good writ...
