Re: Questions for the Grylliade Non-Hive Mind

I know this stuff intellectually, but ugh. And here in colored reddish, it's 32 years.

Which still gets you to '86, but now I'm only off in my mind by 13 years which I can live with.

Yeah no spark so not running. Yeah, you smoked the alternator when your reverse polarized the battery. It's cheap and easy to protect against that. I wouldn't stand in the way of legislation that would hold CEOs of vehicle manufactures what didn't protect the alternator personally libel to buy thei...

Re: Our Friends, The House of Saud

Is it just me, or does this seem like a huge overreaction by the Saudis to anyone else? Like "You can't tell me what to do! I bet you're not even my REAL mom!" teen tantrum level overreaction to "Your room is a mess." I'm guessing there's some sort of cultural aspect to it, but I certainly can't sp...

Yeah no spark so not running.

And my place does set aside some time for classic/project cars. Also apparently 1970s now count as classic.

I’m going to bet against ichneumon wasp because the long bit on DE’s specimen is the actual abdomen, not an ovipositor like on the wasp.

Could still be a wasp of some sort, but not ichneumon.

Re: Questions for the Grylliade Non-Hive Mind

Question about auto mechanics and the choosing thereof. The Erstwhile Surly Teen used some of his extra cash picked up during his Korea deployment to buy an old beat up Mustang ('73 with a 351). It was to be a fixer-upper, but has ended up being more fixey than anticipated, especially since while 'h...

Is it just me or is Toyota Flo totally a cylon? Are you crossing the streams? I keep getting online Toyota ads, and they've got a ... presenter woman? Not sure what the term is, but basically a Flo From Progressive but for Toyota, and ... maybe it's just me but I'm pretty sure she's a cylon. It's r...

I saw a sticker on a street sign today that said "MAKE RACISTS AFRAID AGAIN." Um ... were they ever afraid to start with? More than they are now? I don't remember this period of history. Well, we saw the explosion of assholes who thought Trump's election meant they could be open about their racism....

I will say that at metered onramps I almost never have to worry about the dumbass in front of me not accelerating enough to merge properly. I almost always have plenty of room to match speed, even at poorly built, too-short onramps. That's just my observation.

I got randomly curious about aquavit and picked up a bottle of Linie. That is a remarkably smooth drink for the ABV. And by way of follow-up, I finished the bottle in about a week, which is crazy -fast for me. It's just terribly easy to drink neat. Will have to employ more caution as I try other aq...

Yeah, "steampunk" has zilch to do with 70s-80s punk. Of course, I mostly just think it's tacking on brass-rimmed goggles and clockwork to things that don't have them. Yeah as I understand it the term was originally a very tongue-in-cheek joke on the term cyberpunk. Very much this. It's punk in that...

Everyone's narrative paints themselves better and exaggerates/highlights the other's flaws to make the best possible case for themselves. I can...

Yes but that’s some disingenuous nonsense in the tweet. Or dumb. Both. The reasons we don’t have single payer - 1) sticker shock to taxpayers not just rich ones; 2) income shock to providers. Not 3) companies waging class war. I think there's also a healthy dose of 4) I built a lot of my identity a...

Fuck peppers. Seriously. Fucking filler bullshit food. Do you know how much red bell pepper there is in like every single Lean Cuisine? Just why. Why. No one needs that. And the bell peppers in the Chipotle veggie mix completely ruin it. I would be including onions in every fucking burrito if they ...

I don't usually like raw onions, but I did once eat a "salad" that consisted of nothing but white onion with vinegar. It was...better than I'd expected. Europeans have weird ideas about salads, but I could kind of figure a way for that to work. That would probably be fucking delightful with Vidalia...

Re: You Learn Something New Every Day

onions and bell peppers are fine as ingredients if done right. Philly cheese steak, fajitas, in chinese food. Onions are good in a lot of other circumstances. Green bell peppers are at best less-good outside of cooked dishes. But badly done bell-pepper-based-spaghetti sauce is the worst. Also green ...
