Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

Basically, the movie would have been great if it had just been the following: Poe prank calls the First Order and then we walk away from that story. Luke and Rey go spearfishing while Chewie plays with birds. Kylo Ren kills Darth Hefner, then gets rejected by Rey. Last Ride of Admiral Holdo. Astral...

*shrug* I bow to your collective superior knowledge of basic scientific obstacles to DYI pharmacology and perhaps it *is* a bridge too far; but while I don't expect the laws of chemistry to change, we're still basically talking about what's not going to be possible in the future based on the state o...

I expect health care costs for many if not most diseases and disorders will plummet as genetic medicine overtakes the current state of the art. For that matter, it's only a matter of time before later generation 3D printers will be able to home manufacture pharmaceuticals. Um, 3D printing is very d...

Do y'all remember the time someone (IIRC Ellie) posted some idiotic twitter complaint a la "Prescription glasses prove capitalism is evil, because people with poor vision must pay money if they want to see"? Of course it's a stupid argument which among other things confuses cause and effect. This i...

Would have thought he'd go taco salad. Catered by his hotel. There's a great but probably apocryphal tale of Sergeant Schriver doing some advance work in West Virginia for one or other Kennedy chumming it up with the locals, mostly coal miners, and at one point telling the bartender "These guys are...

No one knows what medical services would cost in a less regulated market between patient and provider; therefore, no one knows whether third party payers would be required in many of the circumstances they currently cover. On balance, as soon as a hospital is required, yes, insurance is probably goi...

I heard a guy at the bar the other night say Google was completely controlled by the Clintons and if you google HRC nothing about emails comes up. We did it in the bar and the first thing that came up was an "email timeline". The guy didn't even blink and said trump made them put it back that's gre...

I really don't think it would even be possible for a doctor to offer "cash discounts" without scrapping medical regulations entire. My physician's medical practice does offer a discount for cash but only for non-insured patients. I believe it is illegal for medical practices and hospitals to discus...

The Anglican Church of Canada is the Canadian equivalent of the Episcopal Church in the U.S.; that is, the official constituent member of the Anglican Communion.

Ellie's comment made me realize -- yeah, attempts at rewriting the Bible in various forms DOES seem to be a Protestant thing; I don't recall any Catholic versions of "Extreme Bibles" or "Hip-Hop Bibles" or "The Groovy Bible for Groovy Hippies" or anything like that. The Catholic Church has historic...

If your car is still under warranty, consider taking it to a different Honda dealership (bonus points for telling your former dealer why). If it's not under warranty, take it to an independent mechanic. They have the same diagnostic tools the dealers have and the same service bulletins.

I'd add permitting health insurance plans to compete nationwide and automatically approve any drugs that have already been vetted by Germany, but that's an otherwise excellent list.

The whole TV show meme about this presidency seems wrong to me, in retrospect. This administration is damn weird, but too ugly and malevolent to make a watchable comedy, I dunno -- you ever read Catch-22? Far darker and more malevolent than I remotely expected, the first time I ever read it.... It ...

I not only got one of my credit cards paid off, I accidentally overpaid by $500. Apparently they will send you a check if you ask for it. That happened to me once too, although I only overpaid by like $80 and they sent me a check unbidden. Apparently they think it's bad form to be in debt. Maybe it...
