Re: This is the thread for people who died, died.

This is a fair assessment. I'm kind of that way with a lot of Terry Gilliam stuff. Hmm yeah. I remember watching Time Bandits in the theater and being like "WTF is everyone going on about, this is boring AF". But then later when I re-watched it on TV, I was like "Ohhh yeah, now I get it. This is gr...

Re: This is the thread for people who died, died.

Wes is peculiar to me. I really feel like I should like his stuff. But when I watch it, I get it, but it just doesn't land with me. Too much pretense with insufficient substance to back it up. I remember some goth girl with three pounds of metal in her face working register at the neighborhood movie...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

Star Trek was ground breaking. The Enterprise is absolutely iconic. You know it just from it's silhouette. But the real look of the show was sets and costumes. The lights and displays on the bridge consoles do not hold up, But the uniforms do (if you can accept the low cut tops and miniskirts.) And ...

Guys. I think I'm cured. I'm basically not reading any news and .... I feel great. It also has conferred some kind of immunity to me. I saw something just 10 minutes ago about Trump rage quitting a press conference and I felt no desire to see him run off stage like a child. Congratulations! May you...

Anybody who didn't like Zoolander is BANNED Then ban me. Tropic Thunder is okay, but quite overrated in my opinion. It's fun and interesting as a take down of action genre and movie making, but not funny. Tom Cruise is the best thing about it. None of these people have ever once come close to being...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

On close inspection, I'd say 2001 holds up better than Star Wars as a film that was far ahead of its time technologically and that still looks good today. As exciting as the final battle was in Star Wars on first viewing, other 'classic' scenes like the saloon scene look gimmicky now. Unlike Lucas,...

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

It's Tarantino's theater, it's Tarantino's movie selections, it's Tarintino's typical patter (though only if you read it really, really fast) and, as with so much else that's Tarantino, the reviews are far more about Tarantino than about the movies he's picked to review. As with so many other thing...

Yeah, it's a bit overplayed nowadays, but I can actually remember seeing The Matrix in a theater and being boggled at 'bullet time'. Holy shit that was cool. Love or hate the movies, there's no denying the Wachowskis set the new standard for action flicks. My take on The Matrix was that the story a...

It hurt more a few years ago when Anne Meara died.

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

The Deliverance take was solid. They fucked up the second half of the movie after a legendary ramp up and turn. Ugh. You think so? I mean maybe if you're a wannabe film maker. A wannabe film maker that wants to make films exactly like Quentin. Or more like, if you want to know what Quentin's scrotu...

Re: It's not the size of the screen...

The shake cam to convey action is bad, but NYPD Blue did the drift cam in dramatic scenes which made me want to murder the director. That was terrible. I don't know what that is, and unless it has to do with cars skidding around, neither does Google. Compare a Bourne movie to NYPD Blue. In Bourne, ...

It's the old Religious Right who still see Trump as a means to an end. Re: The Techno-Bleg Thread

The movie part is better with everyone getting their own copy and watching it. Paying 3 bucks for Ghostbusters and 4 bucks for Princess Bride to Amazon is not bad. It's easy enough to just say "ok, everyone start now!" and it'll be as synchronized as anything can really be over the internet. You'll...
