Re: Massive brawn to go with our massive brains

Today's run was 80+ degrees, 70% humidity, and 70+ dew point (at 6:30 am, no less). I don't know if I've ever been sweatier. I definitely didn't get any wetter by jumping in the pool afterward. Wait, I thought you were in the desert in AZ? Those numbers seem off. For Arizona, I mean. Your humidity ...

Currently the Euro country armies are a complete mess. It's not even that they are underfunded they are completely unready for any kind of action. Without the US military umbrella they are extremely vulnerable. Whatever gets them off their asses and gets them to take their own protection seriously ...

Re: Home $weet Home

Well, the warehouse was a bust. The foundation has issues. I wish the guy luck, but somebody is going to have to spend some cash getting that sorted out. The agent was all "A conservative estimate is about $30K to get that fixed" and I flat laughed at him. There's no way you're fixing that for 30 gr...

Yeah, this is a subject that comes up occasionally among wonk potheads. As a signatory to the UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs as amended by further treaty, you're not supposed to legalize pot at the national level. I mean, we're the US and more than willing to tell the UN to go piss up a rope...

The Anova sous vide is the absolute winner for cooking steak. Seasoning goes in the bag before vacuum sealing (usually teriyaki and garlic). Freeze the steak with seasoning in the bag, throw the bag in the Anova while it heats up. Once it's hot, 1 hour at 140, pull that bad boy out and throw it in a...

So, in my quest to become a member of the landed gentry again, I'm going to go look at a 15K sq. ft. brick warehouse on a 22K sq. ft. lot. Hopefully it's in good shape so that I can convince in-house counsel that this is the way to go. Then I have to come up with justifications for getting them to ...

Re: The son of "What the hell are YOU staring at?"

Went on a John Carpenter kick and watched Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness. I know the latter is not very popular among Carpenter fans, but I'd always thought it was one of the better Lovecraft-style movies I've seen. Hadn't seen PoD before; had I seen it when it was new, it definitel...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

Hmm, yeah, I've watched the first two episodes now, and I'm just not feeling it. It's not bad as far as dystopian sci fi goes, but I don't watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for aliens and spaceships, I watch it for witty banter and multiple Patton Oswalts and people with powers fighting each other. Damn...

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

So, since my emotional attachment to Star Wars was bludgeoned to death in a dark theater by reissues with added crap, Greedo shooting first, and Episodes 1-3, I am generally in no particular hurry to see the movies. On that note, The Last Jedi showed up in the mail from Netflix. I was thinking cool,...

I don't see it there, but I also think the poster was a skinny white guy.
I could swear I saw it in Make, but a couple of searches through the online archives didn't turn anything up. Maybe it was in the print mag.

Well, part of the point of this is that it’s specifically not about new or rehabbed development. New and rehabbed development of 10 units or more already requires 10% of units to be affordable, or for the developer to rehab an equivalent number of affordable units within 2 miles, or for the develop...

Maybe a decade ago, I read a blog post by someone who frequently used a tactical pouch belt, the sort you can unclip, run through an x-ray, then clip back on, for both everyday use and air travel. At least at the time, it didn't count as luggage, and so it was a handy way to carry a load of things ...

I'm bingeing Altered Carbon after we put the tr0gling to bed. The book has been on my radar for a while, but given what else I've read from Morgan, it's going to be chock full o' retarded socialism. There's nothing like being strapped in on an Air Force plane when the crew chief comes back and climbs over you to start pulling avionics boxes off the wall. At that point, you start thinking the option to exit the aircraft in flight is looking pretty good. They didn't issue parachutes. That's beca...
