Well, it should be easy to get Trump to veto this. We just need a bunch of people with Irish last names to insult him on Twitter or protest outside one of his golf courses.

What's he going to do in the Navy?
Well it's universally acknowledged that Navy men are superior in intellect, temperament, and the pleasuring of women, to all other men.
I'm pretty sure I'm right on this point. Isn't that your understanding Kolohe?

I was listening to "Running Up That Hill" and wondered about something: When she says that she'd like to get God to "swap our places", whose places is she talking about? Does she want to swap with God? Or swap with the person to whom she's addressing the song?

Why? I mean, seriously, why? If he wants a job in DoD I would think he would be able to serve as some sort of Senior Aide To The Undersecretary Of Whatever. What's he going to do in the Navy? I assume some sort of bureaucratic or spokesperson job. I really doubt they're going to have him out there o...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Politicians might not care about the cost to us, but some of the people that they have to keep happy care very much about the bond markets. We cannot have a bunch of aircraft carriers AND single-pay AND tax rates that get them re-elected AND anything approaching economic stability. We can have two o...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

We cannot have single-payer AND a bunch of aircraft carriers AND anything remotely resembling a tax rate that Americans will accept. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, we can have two of those things, but we cannot have all three.

Not for very long, at least.

I'd like to see a Venn diagram of those who think it's unconscionable to deny Mayo Clinic service to everyone and those who believe that Western Medicine is not tuned in with what really matters to the health of the whole individual.

Obviously everyone should move to the same Goldilocks area, just big enough and attractive enough to have jobs but not so big and attractive that it's expensive to live in. If they don't, it shows a lack of personal responsibility. And if they all do, well, the housing prices will rise and wages wil...

Even if you couldn't do so with the moon, could you start a fire with enough starlight , then? Personally, while the explanation made sense, I thought one of the whole points of using telescopes was that they made target objects, like low-magnitude stars, brighter. In principle, sure. But I can't e...
