Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

I always thought that slur was spelled with an a (in the second vowel), but then again, plenty of other slurs have varied spellings thanks to the schwa.

Everything about Kirk is pulpy sci fi. Picard has to pretend to be in a pulpy thing on the holodeck to have any fun.

Speaking of Tillamook cheese, I saw some bags of it (shredded, in a 'farmstyle cut') for the first time at a Safeway near me yesterday, 3000 miles from Oregon

In 1987, my mother was a fortyish year old woman living in sururban Virginia who smoked like a chimney.

Wow, was she a Russian spy?

This bothers me more than it should, in that it should be simply yet another stupidity I should just casually dismiss.

Re: We know the Russians love their children too

I disagree. I think this is a great way of bringing everything to a final showdown between all the fundamental tensions that the show is composed of. Elizabeth has always been the true believer, and endured long periods of physical and emotional abuse that she has internalized as the cost of doing b...

according to Wiki, there's only 70k Arab Americans in NYC, which is on the low side for an individual ethnicity. (And every ethnicity in NYC seems to be 'largest number of ethnicity X outside traditional home nation(s))

Re: I just don't get it

I get British people. I don’t get anyone else. The modern presidency is founded on FDR being a king on radio and even more so, JFK & Jackie being a King and Queen on TV. eta - actually, that's kinda unfair to both of them, because Washington started most of the royal trappings stuff, to fill a perc...

I just don't know what to say to any of you. Move to Maryland and understand the inversion of all values. Death is life. Life is death. My pickup truck needs testicles. Was driving around Ellicott City yesterday and some person in an Enterprise rental van in front of me passed the three cars in fro...

Oahu is awful close to the leper island.
The lepers are close to the far side of the island, in their own version of Galt's Gulch.

The closer third of that island maybe still for sale.

Re: Legion's air disease is all in your head (spoilers)

I'm liking how they're handling this season of Legion. I was worried because the premiere episode was perhaps a bit too self indulgent, but since then they've settled down and have continued to be innovative in interesting and smart ways. This last episode they went full Kubrick, completely unapolog...

Eh, only if you had the liquidty to get through the early 90s recession. The Japanese famously had to offload a lot of NYC real estate aquisitions in the 90s at fire sale prices.

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

The proton torpedoes that destroyed the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin also had parabolic trajectories. Yes, but the moon-sized Death Star would have been big enough, I imagine, to generate its own gravitational pull. Between the workspaces, living spaces, trash compactors, the void surrounding ...
