Re: Cooling down: a more palatable thread?

the french have perfectly nice pasteries but if i have to eat a dessert i'd pick egyptian and greek well ahead of the french, Wait, what. No. Stop. The whole thing is phyllo and that's pretty much it. Sometimes layered with so much honey you can't lift it sometimes stuffed with cheese. I mean ok bu...

Re: Inequality

It is true that one more tier and I’d be expected to pull more hours. The thing here is 40 hours managed tightly for hourly, then salaried with 40 but considerable flexibility for whole lot of roles, then above that lots more. VP tier is the danger zone - and also where comp structures really shift.

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

I'll just say that I understand the instinct to deplatform, but the who gets to decide thing is the whole thing and it is too scary to entertain, plus I do think that it is at a basic level healthy to have those voices in the open and responses to them constantly in the mix. It is very much my sense...

Re: Inequality

Psst 40 hour weeks arent really 40 hour weeks for many kinds of work right now. It is a norm outside of phone services that nobody really gives a shit if you cone in :30 after or leave :30 before. Nobody cares if your lunch is long. Nobody cares if you grab the kids for some kid thing. People only ...

Re: Inequality

So many of my friends/acquaintances "liked" the post (and one even added "Capitalism is killing us all!") that I had to ask, as politely as possible, exactly what they thought a natural workweek would look like. Pretty much just so I can roll my eyes some more, but who knows, maybe somebody will ha...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

We imbue content providers in this country/society/era with a certain type of moral authority, which leads to certain responsibilities. This is nonsense to me in a modern media landscape. Then why did Brian Williams lose his job? It's weird to say anything you want to call content is just like Bria...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

I think it's fine for FB to have whatever policy they want. I certainly don't think conspiracies and awful stuff on social platforms are the government's business (which has been a threat if Facebook "doesn't fix it" whatever that means). But ... I also think it is a mistake for people to persistent...

Re: I just don't get it

Right. Even the politicos and whatnot who say things I hate and are otherwise bad people - the treatment is still unfair and tends to make me sympathetic. The way the humor works is an appealing to very base instincts.

Re: It's all good man!

I think this is a process of revealing Saul not transforming into him. Jimmy is a bad person. If anything goes a way he doesn't like he'll burn it all down and looks immediately for someone else to blame. His delight seemed a quick turn to me as well, but really what do you expect at this point. He'...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

Re: I just don't get it

So am I the only person in the world who finds Sacha Baron Cohen's shtick repetitive, stupid, and neither funny nor enlightening? I feel like it, sometimes. Team JD. I'll also add unfair and mean - yes sometimes to people who may deserve it, but still. It's an ambush to make people look stupid when...

Inequality

It’s pretty natural to starve. Then it was pretty natural to work the land all day every day and still starve with high frequency. It’s because of capitalist surplus you have it in your head that anything other than those options is an option. Then the thing becomes how natural is it for some people...

Re: Orange is the new President

Distrust of the political class probably does encourage corruption, on the margin. Because why shouldn't our guy get his? Corruption almost certainly encourages distrust of the political class. I agree it is a self-reinforcing cycle, which is why it is more important to demand that the elites follo...

Orange is the new President

I know this is a theme several take from my commentary but I don’t know how to respond to it. What’s an analog shortcut that I favor for rich people but not poor people. Generally use of the state to take money from some people and give to others is bad. I don’t support corporate welfare as I unders...

Re: Orange is the new President

Golf buddies don’t bother me as a new and bad thing. It’s just an example of “this is a bad president who can’t identify/doesn’t care about competence in his staff”. Emoluments bother me as something that brings us closer not to monarchy but to the sort of corruption you see in Italy and S Korea.

I’ve told you what it is. It sucks at credit cards generally and it sucks even more at them when you are an infrequent user.
