Re: It's all good man!

I finished S3. I dunno. I'm on the fence about continuing. They are dragging out the primary relationship too long and I kinda feel like they are just making Kim a mirror for Saul without giving her any core. I found her continued turn toward the end not believable. I don't know after so many revela...

Haha yes that's a thing. I'm not saying my firm is a primary driver for that kind of take on portfolio managers but I'm not saying they aren't.

Re: Observations of the Random sort

There was a lot of that in financial firms especially. Branding was all about “financial strength” and “will endure”. The look of a bank was intentionally suggestive of the vault inside. Different time. Walls don’t protect your money now.

Ayup. Though part of his thing is "and we should be happy about this because we'd be retarded in our choices of a full life reset", which I think gets overlooked.

Re: Podcasts - Watcha listening to?

The Econtalk with John Gray about 7 kinds of atheists was pretty interesting. I think he has some good points but perhaps in arguing against a doctrinaire atheism he is a bit unfair. When he argues for example that the ethics of atheists are not based in rationality but in contemporary norms, he sor...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

I'm not wading into this very far Jennifer because there's no point. What I will say is there are better and worse versions of the invade argument. I had a specific set of concerns and a set of assumptions about the range of potential outcomes. I weighed those incorrectly and was wrong in my assessm...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

In coaching and in business decisions and probably in public policy as well, I am a believer in giving the most weight to the quality of reasoning and process of executing plans over a series of decisions that mattered and much less weight to outcomes. This is the Joe Flacco is not better than Dan ...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

That observation, more than any particular other thing, is why my perspective is slowly shifting to dooom from my general belief in progress and long run triumph of a set of conditions we know basically work. What is definitely the case - the neoliberal consensus has produced the greatest prosperity...

Aside - what passes for comedy in my house. The most significant governing section of IRC related to deferred compensation plans is section 409a. I was in the middle of deferred comp stuff at work, got home, made something on the stovetop and I asked the wife to hand me the 409a like 4 times - getti...

Kmart has been nothing but terrible for as long as I can remembe. Its continued existence baffled me once Walmart, even the bad wal marts, came about. Sears has coasted on being the easiest local option for appliances and appliance parts until they finally died.
