If you earn any money in the world you have to buy Medicare, social security, SSDI.
Those are taxes, not purchases.
There’s no difference I can see. People talk about those as purchases all the time.

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

I thought more than 2/3. You guys don’t have co pays right? No co-pays on basic care. The Fraser Institute (a libertarian-ish econ think-tank) has estimated that even a $5 co-pay would eliminate most of the wait lines in emergency rooms and save billions of dollars, but it's a political non-starter...

I will never understand the obsession with that feature as a lynchpin of reform. We already have a mandatory insurance purchase program or three. Nobody who voted on it was confused about this feature then woke up and were like “it’s a tax oh noes!”

Why is everyone suddenly losing their shit over Billie Eilish especially in a sexualized way she ok musically I guess but like 15. Lesbians seem to be all in? I don’t understand.

There must be a pony in here somewhere.

My read of those bills is they are looking to gash reimbursement via regulation. You wouldn’t know until the funding were formed up but of course that’s the hardest part. I agree the buy in’s are my first choice at first pass. Yes I know I don’t get a say but I feel like I should know what I prefer.

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

I agree. The biggest problem relative to international systems is provider rates. How many people you know would continue on their career path if someone said they were regulatorily capped at 60% of current wages.

It’s going to be interesting.

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

I think one of the most significant binding constraints is the willingness of providers to accept enough less money to make given programs affordable. You are dealing with powerful loss aversion forces there.

I'm out on anything that doesn't involve patient skin in the game for most patients. I'm okay with a layer at the bottom for the lowest income to evade such, but I think you are in real trouble if you don't have people feel something at point of the event that in some sense is proportional to real c...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Time to go cross eyed staring at our future so I can choose the least destructive among them. There's a lot of fantasy in funding I can see that already. Team Bernie doesn't even try "let's get our policy right then talk about funding." Sure. The Urban Institute one seems the most funding plausible ...

Shelving-instead-of-cabinets is okay, if and only if you have a very effective hood over the stove. There is gas to the home, so it may be possible to retrofit a gas stove, but man I'm trying to think how you'd put in a hood over that stove without destroying the aesthetic, and coming up with thing...

Agree with Aresen. Nobody else is in the same galaxy for the average customer. The base assumptions are just different here.

Yes it's a lap pool. I'd put my own cooktop and hood in - tbh I've not yet seen a house were I wouldn't be doing that anyway. Ovens are fine. It is 99 acres and was a full horse farm. And there's a whole second house in good shape if dad needed to move in. I think I would go nuts that far out but I'...

My sense is there's some handwaving in that position. The "substantial even for unskilled labor" part of it. I have a view of entry positions in a handful of businesses I've worked with and how regional variances look these days - say last 10 years. There is a considerable amount of migration of ent...

I should clarify, my actual preference set is crappy benefit levels funded by forced savings with real differences in retirement lifestyle funded by elections to save - so I'm not at this point going to get rid of social security or replace it with personal accounts. I just don't want it to be anyth...

Time Square Starbucks has latte at same price as my local Starbucks. Bottom line, though, I think this is more obvious than you guys are suggesting. There is simply less flex in lower skill positions due to both a greater pool of talent and the products very often being limited in price variance for...

Re: Surprise! It's Government's Good Side

I obviously have a vested interest in tax advantaged savings - but this is too goofy even for me. Health and retirement saving, MAYBE education - that's it. I will say though, that I'm fine with the idea that there shouldn't be tax advantaged savings if I get to live in the world where nobody cries ...
