Re: Cheap food, historically

I don't think it's the case that the lowest possible grade frozen foodstuffs would be better than what well off people were eating in 1900s america, but it's an interesting question at the other end of the scale. One thing that has happened is the democritization of variety. Right at about this time...

Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

To be clear I think the right view is you can have whatever preferences you have and it’s fine. I’m only annoyed when people tell me there is a moral component to preferences in circumference but not altitude.

Right. Point is not impossible but remarkably difficult compared to what you’d think if height preferences attenuated slowly.

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

Oh it’s a percentages thing that applies variously at various stages of life, not a universal. It’s a thing though. I forget the study exactly but something like “choose these dudes from a lineup” giving them various stories. Comedian, business dude, athlete, etc. estimated income. They changed vari...

I get really annoyed by guys who are super upset that "women only like tall men."
Short guy here - I only get annoyed when people complain about male to female lookism all the time but have no problem with this standard. Only minorly annoyed though.

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

A friend of mine is running hard with the Carter Page was an FBI informant in 2013 angle. The idea is he helped them with some guy Podobny who got ejected from the country, so it can't be they thought he was a spy. I don't know what to do with that really.

Re: Twitter!

I had an outstanding AP history teacher (one of the three best high school teachers I ever had), but he hardly used the textbook (if there was ever one), he just lectured, but in a storytelling fashion (I just realized he was podcasting 20 years before that was a thing) This sounds like my teacher....

So you pointed it out and she changed her mind right? If so good for you but that’s like .000000001% of cases. The excuse machine kicks in and it all becomes okay - something I choose not to think about. And that’s where most people are. They choose to ignore rather than being completely ignorant. T...

So, I'll give you my own version of this. My truth serum answer to a pointed question about gun violence in america is "it's a totally acceptable risk net of everything - I don't think we should do anything at all". If I'm asked how many children have to die for me to change my mind, and in particul...

First fiction on audible - Artemis by The Martian guy Andy Weir. This is definitely what happens when STEM people dabble in librul arts. There is no amount of plumbing, ductwork, window materials, fuel mixes, network interfacing, fire protection, etc. that doesn't get at least 2 pages of description...

Agree. I'd like the world to be like "of course profitability = sustainability of the thing we want to do" but that's totes out of bound to say out loud.

The people profiting most is not how to describe that piece though. The article stipulates that the rents in the middle men space “do not account for the vast majority of American overspending”. It sounds terrible but it is a thing to be discussed. The revenue model has to shift, and you should talk about that.
