Re: the list of those things which are not food

Let me put it this way - if the case is me and Jad at dinner, the probability of defenestration would be minimized by food conversations. If you join us, not so much.

Re: the list of those things which are not food

My experience is the food religious treat the food indifferent with pity and condescension while they treat the non religious food enthusiast with shocked vitriol. Yo, I don't care if the chickens eat GMOs. I don't care if they are free range. I only care if they taste good and specifically that the...

Re: the list of those things which are not food

Compatible types can hang. In the sense that you don't really want to talk about religion much in mixed company, modern food religions are very difficult to integrate with people who view food as either blah/neutral or as a source of delight. Religion permits neither indifference nor delight in the ...

Re: I may want to see that?

It doesn't matter how faithful or not the film adaptation is, my wife will still hate it because she simply can't accept any variance at all. The only entirely satisfactory film version would just run a scroll of the entire text of the novel start to finish. I just learned my wife is like this with...

That’s not really an Alton Brown vibe meign. Rachel Ray maybe? Someone with their own brand of tongs at Target.

Re: Tiny Triumphs

Dry aged meat is the common variety though that’s a low humidity affair where the goal is for the exterior to slowly spoil in a dry environment such that when you cut it away the remaining steaks take in a musky flavor.

The trailer looked shiny and also suggests to me I remember zero about that book.

Re: Observations of the Random sort

I like chit chat at specialty stores like wine shops in my case, but I hate it at the grocery where they don't know anything and people make jokes about a fennel bulb being a shrub or some kind of alien life. Is there consultative value in this interaction even potentially? If no, stfu. If yes, I ap...

Re: Video Games!

I don't really like Stellaris. It seems ok at first but it has that feature where any mistakes you made may not be apparent for a hundred hours and hey look its too late haha. Also I find the middle game boring after a point. Once borders basically get established its hard to progress in a fun way.

Re: When journalism goes bad

Oh I don't think there's a lot consistent about the model, I think its just how they see things. The conservative view of the second amendment in contrast to their view of all law enforcement is wacky and always has been. It's the mirror image of the left's "racist government institutions lets give ...

Re: When journalism goes bad

The model as I understand it goes something like: - The world is composed of scumbags and good people - Scumbags don't respect authority or participate in social institutions that would moderate their native scumbaggishness. - Scumbags/lawbreakers will do literally anything, they are functionally pr...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

I don’t understand why agents don’t act to equilibriate terms of deals. Maybe different clients have different clout? Maybe they value different things? Maybe she valued up-front pay more than terms like no extra fees for reshoots, while Wahlberg wanted different terms? Maybe a given client will ha...
