Re: Putin on the Writs

On the propaganda front, Russia isn't doing anything that Americans won't do to themselves via cable news and social media. If we're vulnerable to Russian propaganda it's only because we're so eager to swallow bullshit. I feel this way about many things in the public conversation right now. I feel ...

Re: Putin on the Writs

Agree. We should take the stance that Russia, China, Israel and probably some others are actively engaged in influence campaigns and some sliding scale of cyberattacks at all times. Be aware of the former and beef up as necessary counter measures and for the latter. It is probably best to think of C...

Also, MMR vaccination rates are pretty consistent all the way back to the dial-up era.
That is interesting. The outbreaks are because of concentrations among the unvaccinated I guess then.

Me too. Works well in Indian things.

ETA : I still have a love affair with Mexican crema tho. All chili braises get a bit in the bowl.

Re: Food

Dry ice has given way to frozen gels in packages in at least some delivery services. If you re-use them I'm sure they are more efficient over a lifecycle, but the average home can't possibly find a use for these packs. It seems wasteful like there should be a way to get the packs back into the shipp...

Re: People Love Crony Capitalism

There were sub prime mortgages issued that for various reasons, not just interest only but also just "wouldn't normally qualify" sorts of cases. Those for various predictable reasons wound up in foreclosure because they were predicated on housing staying white hot. So, yeah those foreclosures happen...

Re: Food

I think about sweet and heat as a "curbs the excesses of" rule not a "always reduces felt heat at any margin" rule. A spicy curry that leaves the palette burning can be chased with a Riesling to great effect. The heat is still felt but it is not as lingeringly potent, but if you have a dish with a m...

Re: A thread for mocking politicians

Bernie Sanders says that he hasn't done a good enough job explaining democratic socialism. He says that "democratic" means "voting on things", and "socialism" means "prosperity". So basically, he thinks you can just vote yourself rich. He needs to be pressed on his history with explicit endorsement...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

My understanding from my more healthcare obsessed days is that about 10% (float between say 8% and 12%) of UK residents are covered by private insurance, that such coverage is 99% corporate benefits, and that it is employed primarily to ameliorate dissatisfaction with services the NHS won't cover or...

Re: Podcasts - Watcha listening to?

It's the funding mechanism rather than the idea of UBI itself that may have some effect on the general price level. Yang wants a VAT that is pretty pervasive in the economy to capture a piece of most transactions. That would, it seems to me, create upward push on prices generally because it's a univ...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

My controversial take is Thor is better than the bottom. It’s lower mid. I deffo exclude hulk movies because I can’t remember which one to include. I have a pretty strong dislike of things like civil war where the title says you have to have a civil war and character and plot be damned you will have...

Yes but your Thor 2 take puts that in a context that makes me shrug about the varied and wrong tastes one encounters in life.
