Re: Ragequits

Any number of strategy games when it became apparent that while I had to acquire units by building them, the AI just got awarded them on a schedule regardless of whether it could have built them or not. In particular I remember a really annoying thing in Colonization - the AI loved to station other ...

There's a lot of multi-colored corn, but one of the most striking is called Glass Gem:

We Work will no longer allow you to expense any meals containing red meat, poultry, or pork. I first heard this story as a thing about their cafeteria, but it actually extends apparently to their expense policies, which takes a whtevs and turns it into OFFS. https://www.foodandwine.com/news/wework-...

I've become rather fond of the Suarez Family "Crispy Little". Dumb name, but it's a nice, unusual twist - it's kind of a pale ale made with wheat, so it's got some of the wheat character with a very resinous hop character.

I'm also pretty sure there's more than one type of perching bird in the US. But I mean, I'm no ornithologist. If by "perching birds" they mean the order Passeriformes*, then there are over 50 families, and some of those families have over 50 species each. * Passerines have three toes facing forward...

Musk has always been an overpromising asshole. True, but his recent Trumpesqueian twitter fits have a 'Working twenty hours every day just to keep the lid on this thing a little while longer. If I could only just... FUCK FUCK FUCK' vibe to em. Yeah. I think right now we're seeing the wheels come of...

From 1953 through 1970, United offered men-only flights between New York and Chicago and between Los Angeles and San Francisco. No women (passengers, that is; of course the stewardesses were female), no children, complementary cigars. http://3rjfy21znlo631twxe405qqvzc4-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-co...

Glad you caught that in time, Highway. It's tough to tell with cats - they can be very stoic, but any behavior changes should be checked out.

Rearranged the furniture and put the portable AC in the office/second bedroom rather than the living room. It actually works much better in there, since the office is much smaller and doesn't have windows and skylights and an exterior door. Unfortunately this leaves the living room even hotter, but ...

My employer has the strictest, most stringent IT security that I’ve ever encountered in my career and people still get tricked by phishing emails. Recently, they stepped up our anti-phishing efforts, with fake phishing emails coming seemingly weekly (they even made a dedicated “Report as Phishing” ...

Everyone has probably seen this already, but after a British diver criticized Musk and his submarine idea, Musk fired back on Twitter, including calling the diver "pedo guy". That's just bizarre, whatever else one may think of Musk's offer of help.

The indictment itself is an interesting read. The depressing part, in a way, is that mostly it wasn't that sophisticated: spoofed email was sent to Clinton campaign staffers telling them to click an embedded link to log on to Google and change their password, they fell for it, and then the attacker...

Re: What's New at the Bijou?

Saw Sorry To Bother You last night. It was fucking amazing. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the trailers, other than it would be weird, but I can only describe it as "urban sci-fi horror comedy". It doesn't have quite the filmmaking artistry of Hereditary , but it does a great job of storyte...

My wife bought a pint of Halo Top ice cream. The tipoffs should have been the words "light ice cream" and "only 280 calories per pint!" I thought the flavor was OK, she did not, but we both thought the texture was nasty; I thought it had a greasy, slick mouthfeel that was not at all like the creamin...

I learned that lesson in my early days of buying DVDs. I would get movies that I enjoyed. Then I got The Ice Storm , and looked at it on the shelf every time I was looking for a movie to kill time with and at some point I realized that some films you will never ever be in a mood to re-watch. Saw Hereditary the other night. It's hard to know how to review it. It's excellently made; the writing and directing and acting are all excellent. And it's a great example of a true "horror" movie, in that it's not just "oh noes, an undead killer is chopping up campers with a machete" or whatever, b...
