Re: This is the thread for people who died, died.

David Koch I guess I didn't realize that all of Twitter and reddit thought he was literally the love child of Satan and Hitler. Good lord. Oh yeah. Facebook is basically exploding with how he was personally responsible for the existence of everything from just to the right of Bill Clinton all the w...

Re: Worthwhile intertubez finds

Interesting discussion at https://www.jordanbpeterson.com/blog-posts/i-didnt-say-that/ I do think, though, that a) you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, so a knee-jerk OMIGOD WE CAN'T TRUST AUDIO OR VIDEO BAN IT RIGHT NOW reaction is unhelpful at best b) I can think of completely legitimate...

According to the infallible Wikipedia, Greenland is ~8,000 sq mi larger than the Louisiana Purchase.
The food, however, is not anywhere near as good.

(Also, TIL that Alaska, huge as it is (663,300 mi²) is still not even close to as big as the Louisiana Purchase (approximately 827,000 mi²))

Re: the entirely civil and thoughtful israel thread

I would think there is a certain segment of evangelical Christians who would be really freaked out about a US President (semi-)declaring himself "King of Israel".

The weird thing about the last few days is that buying Greenland is probably the least bad idea Trump has had. After all, we acquired something like 50% of the current US land area through purchases.

I try to go to bed around 11, but it rarely actually happens that way, and is more normally 11:45 - 12:15.

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Most people want to never have to make any hard decisions or take any real responsibility. In my darker moments I think that most people are basically animals who want to live in a pen and be fed and cared for by a Great Leader.

But thin people are privileged, and rich people are privileged, so therefore thin people are rich! It's basic logic!

Florida man lands his helicopter at his friend's birthday party as a surprise. That's not the story, really. Nobody was hurt and the FAA says there's no problem landing on private property if the property owners are OK with it. Coral Springs says he violated "an ordinance against unauthorized landi...

I just saw a Facebook ad for what appears to be a totally legitimate project -- a sort of saddle with handle, that you wrap around yourself like a back brace so a kid can ride on your back and play "horsey." Let me reiterate, this is a grab bar you strap on so someone can get on top of you while yo...

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

Yesterday I went to a minor league baseball game, the Brooklyn Cyclones vs. the Tri-City ValleyCats. Brooklyn was leading most of the way through an uneventful game until Tri-City managed to pull even (due to some bad calls by the umpire, if you ask me). It looked like the game might go into extra i...

Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers , by Mary Roach. It's an interesting read, about all the things that happen to cadavers, whether it's mortuary services or organ donation or scientific testing. Sometimes I actually wish it were a little more dry and scientific instead of the author insert...

I'm pretty sure that she is just going to lose the notebook and then complain about that.

Re: Petty annoyances

My wife seems to have some kind of pathological inability to remember passwords. I tried setting her up with Lastpass and then she can't remember the password to that either. I am pretty much at the point of handing her a paper notebook and saying "Don't ever ask for help with your passwords again."
