Re: Observations of the Random sort

At the risk of overthinking this, I realize that in a grocery I don't mind chit-chat *if it seems sincere*. It's when they give off the vibe that they're just doing it because they are supposed to, or if there's a line and obviously neither of us should be taking more time than needed, that it's ann...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

they are still always asking about what I’m going to make or do and I really hate that. Preach it. It's annoying in grocery stores, but the home-brew store is the worst for this. Every friggin' time, "watcha makin'?" (in the most dude-bro voice possible). I get it, it's good for business to try to ...

That explains why some people are complaining that dems shouldn't make concessions to end the shutdown.

Senior pro-Brexit politicians in the UK have been pleased to back a campaign by The Sun newspaper for commemorative Brexit stamps to be issued to celebrate the country's exit from the European Union in March 2019.

Kroger's one of the more expensive chains for most items Really? In places I've lived, Kroger is budget groceries. There's cheaper to be found, but only poverty would drive one to accept the reduction in quality. I dunno, I hear it most often pronounced as Crow-zhay, and we all know if a word sound...

Yep. Yum. Timing hasn't been right to make it to a truck in a couple years, but I'll have to try the fish taco. The few times I've ventured beyond the bbq or pork tacos I felt like I was just drinking a vat of grease (I'm particularly singling out the Black Jack Quesadilla) so I usually stick to th...

Revisiting Pilotwings on SNES. Always found it enjoyable but dammit, don't make me land in a crosswind if you're not going to give me proper control over *all* the control surfaces. Can't move the rudder independent of ailerons. Was it an Ercoupe? In the game it looks like a 30s biplane. But cool, ...

I find it amusing that at the moment an old game I'm playing asks you "are you sure? Y/N" just to *start playing the game*. Really, you think telling a whole state they're going to die needs less failsafe than a friggin' Andy Capp simulator.

Any other year if be all-in on the Vikings, but the idea of a team playing the Superbowl in their own stadium rubs me the wrong way. It's definitely rewarding bad behavior. And considering how many times the Vikings have lost the Super Bowl (and they are one of my teams, Seattle being the other), I...

I've been wanting to do sous-vide for a while, asked a buddy how he does his pork chops and he does it without any equipment- because they are thin, he says he just puts them in the bath and they are done quickly enough not to have to worry about circulators and thermostats. Which I think I'll be co...

Saw Shape of Water last night.

Entirely predictable, but it made up for it by being absurdly heavy handed. Noting that I recognized actors from both Take Shelter and A Serious Man, I spent most of the movie wishing that the people who wrote *those* movies had written this one.

As to the WFB quote, while yes the victim blaming is offensive, I have often considered something similar; that the left's original premise of self-fulfillment over fulfilling the requirements of one's traditions, has led to conflict with the left's current agenda of emphasizing sociableness. In the...

True. They then saw that they didn't work, the cure was worse than the disease and changed their tune. Maybe somewhat. Pigs and Battleships is a really great movie. Not exactly sure if I'd say top 10 or 20 or 30, but it would definitely be on my list of essential classic movies.
