Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

It would be amusing if it weren't so pathetic, how TurboTax sends it's return numbers spinning up and down only to land on the same numbers before the spin, just so the consumer thinks the software is "working" to get you the biggest refund.

Re: cars and how they get that way

Zoom zoom. We traded in our '07 mazda3 hatchback for a... 2018 Mazda3 hatchback (1 year old used, 5k miles). Had to go down a trim level, but honestly the car has been improved so much since '07 it doesn't feel like that much of a downgrade. Not super happy about some of the interior changes (the in...

Re: cars and how they get that way

Dammit, going on a big road trip in a couple weeks, took the car in for work that should be about $800, got a call today that they found a bunch of other stuff that needs fixing (and I believe it, 12 year old car with ~160k) for $2000. So I'm exploring options, as saving for the next car has gotten ...

The things that European countries do well could never work here, Shem. When someone praises it as socialist we say that it is actually capitalist, and when somebody asks if we could try their style of capitalism we say that it is actually socialist. This is an effort to literally give the workers ...

Re: Trump's Bogus Argument to Deny Green Cards and Citizenship to Immigrants who Play by the Rules

So, I'm trying not to freak out too much about this, but it affects multiple members of my family and I'm kinda freaking out about it. There are just so many things wrong with how immigration is being handled right now I don't blame anyone for freaking out. It's blowing up any semblance of fairness...

Hmmm, I showed a couple of people here the pic and they thought maybe it was a mayfly. Which was what my original google image search picked up, but i didn't think it looked similar enough to the examples.

Re: tio's neato nature thread

Yikes I just saw this on my wall. Sorry for the crappy pic, I was reluctant to get to close for fear of scaring it off and missing my chance to kill it and then I'd never sleep. Looked like some kind of hybrid scorpion wasp.

Anyone know what it is? (this is in New Hampshire)

<Williams and Ree: Ding-Dong Song> Seeing this thread again reminds me of something we just played last week. Possibly the only Mass that features a tune about Bongs and Doobies. It was so hard not to laugh in front of the audience, it's just so awful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDobDKzjqt4

Re: Home $weet Home

So does this law mean -- what? If you're advertising a place for rent and someone comes to you with a Section 8 voucher, you are now required to contact HUD or whoever and apply to become a Section 8 landlord? Basically. And that's the gist of the complaints- that it's not really about where the mo...

Well this sucks, but we also have a policy that we won't ever openly advertise it anyway and will only rent to people we know or someone we know recommends (our rental is a back house about 10 feet from our bedroom window, so we'll just leave it off the market before renting it to randos): http://ww...

Apparently the Heaven's Gate cult *still* has a couple of true believers: Asked by the Union-Tribune last year why they maintain the website, the members — who decline to identify themselves — said in an email that “they asked us to do it and we were honored to perform the task” and that its content...

An English immigrant has vowed to fight an order to pay for the "vandalism" of his 123-year-old antique piano, which had its ivory key tops removed and dumped by New Zealand's Department of Conservation (DoC). This Ivory thing is bullshit that's gone way too far. Last time I was shopping for a bow,...

At Dulles yesterday, you didn't need to take off your shoes or empty your pockets. Which would have been useful to know before I did that. Because they also withheld most of the plastic bins; you had to put your metal and your electronics in your bag. Ugh. The inconsistency drives me bonkers. Flew ...

The threat to IP is the bigger issue here.
I'm tempted to say or the threat to reputation and quality-control, but then I remember my experiences getting things serviced at officially licensed service outlets.

Re: Fragments of an avotoast anthropology

Almost all new construction in the city of Houston is infill townhomes. They squeeze about 6 in on a 10K lot. Shared driveway, barely a yard. Technically single family because they aren't attached. Which is worst than if it were attached. At least attached, you have (usually) soundproof walls, but ...

I just can't decide why I keep being endlessly entertained by this. Is it the ludicrous facial expressions? The ocean of spandex, fantastically tight asses and that one guy's package? The unintelligibility of the lyrics, which I'm guessing would suck anyway? The laughability of the genre? The star s...

I miss eating cottage cheese. Never tried it with bell peppers. Oooh, now cottage cheese is something I haven't thought about in decades. Both a friend and I have recently rented the Ford Ecosport. We both recommend avoiding these shitmobiles. All of the fancy gizmos as well as basic things like where the rear door latches are frustratingly unintuitive. And even though it looks like an SUV one large suitcase can *barely* fit in the back
