Also FWIW: I can't see Amazon links on either my "main" computer, which I'm on now, or my el cheapo netbook I only use for websurfing while watching TV. Both have different types of script-blockers ad malware protection and whatnot (though I can't give you specifics, because in my household, Jeff h...

Re: Orange is the new President

The president of the United States publicly announcing that he sides with a hostile foreign strongman over his own American advisers and intelligence officers actually is a newsworthy big deal. As is a POTUS who openly insults and despises the very notion of a free press The fact that a POTUS is do...

Wow. There really IS a Trump tweet for every occasion, isn't there? https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/375967171664707584 I wonder how much our "leaders" have promised, or given, Russia in order for them to behave and not make the U.S. look even worse? Re: Orange is the new President

It seems like I've seen a lot of pearl-clutching from Trump haters, though. Unless I'm just noticing that more because it's on the brain, when really it's just one in an endless series of their pearl clutches for the week. It's been like that ever since he was elected. Only now it's really fucking ...

96 and sunny and humid today, yet it didn't make me QUITE as miserable as those statistics would suggest. I do not know how much is me getting acclimated, and how much is me FINALLY having clothing appropriate for such climate conditions.

Re: Ladyfashun

It's a problem with the way phpBB parses it. It sees an amazon link and tries to load an embed like it does with youtube or twitter, but that doesn't actually work for anyone who hasn't already visited the link. If you get the link, and then come back and look at the page, then the embed shows. And...

Re: Orange is the new President

To paraphrase something I saw on Twitter (Will Wilkinson IIRC): it's really strange that not one Republican seems interested in taking the opportunity to go into the history book as the person who took a stand for principles of democracy and "country over party" and "standing up to tyranny" and the...

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening

Seems to be the thing now with progs to mention Falling Down as the epitome of white male entitlement. I really don't remember being that into the movie except the bit about no longer serving breakfast. Is it really that controversial to be against fraud? In a previous 'hood I started out trying to...

Which of course is the only honor they could expect to get, either from their own fellow Americans or the entire rest of the world, hence not such a mystery after all.

Also, forum-format question: why I I never, ever able to see Amazon links? For Kwix's post there -- and every other post with an Amazon link, including at least one I recall making myself -- all I see is a big empty space. In order to actually get the link, I have to hit the "quote" button on the po...

I'm toying with the idea of just pulling them out altogether, except that would be an irreversible move and I don't know if that might do something weird to the shape of the pants legs. Re: Market Failure!

Rit-brand fabric dye basically comes in two varieties: one for natural fibers, one for artificial. Since my summer clothes are all silk or linen, I've been using the natural-fiber dye. I have discovered there is also a third (and more expensive) option: a dye which claims to work on natural and art...

Re: Market Failure!

I know nothing of high end clothing items but I can see the case where a hand tailored linen or silk suit would also use a like thread. I know very little about high-end clothes either, even though I'm pretty sure I have at least a few high-end labels in my closet, because my outer clothes all come...

Re: Does Elon's Musk stink?

Further thoughts on the subject: it's not "just" pedophilia accusations popular among alt-righters, but sexually charged insults in general. Remember, this is the group that made "cuckservative," later shortened to "cuck," a go-to insult for their political opponents.

Re: Market Failure!

Maybe not full-fledged "market failure," but definitely some "market shenanigans" IMO: regarding clothes, a tag announcing that a garment is "100% silk" or "pure Irish linen" or whatever is not necessarily honest; the cloth used to make the main garment might well be woven from pure linen or silk, b...
