Re: Rand Paul.....sigh.

Rand Paul endorses Roy Moore for Alabama Senate race. "Judge Roy Moore has spent a lifetime defending and standing up for the Constitution while fighting for the people of Alabama. We need more people in Washington, D.C. that will stand on principle and defend the Constitution,” Paul said in a sta...

Re: Bryan Fuller is not the Star Trek showrunner

Yeah, that latest SD episode was really boring. I won't say I completely stopped watching after a few minutes -- I did at least leave the TV on -- but I started playing a game on my computer and paid little attention to the show after that. Some guy ends up in Klingon torture prison, I guess? Presuma...

Re: Twitter!

Yikes. I sympathize with the sentiment but that attempt at a hashtag portmanteau is pretty bad. There's no natural-sounding way to blend RAPIST and POTUS, but even something like #RAPEOTUS would be marginally less bad than #RAPISTMOSTUS.

Re: Tiny Triumphs

Today, we've finally had the experience of going a whole 24-plus hours with no AC. Still a little stuffy in my apartment even with the windows open, though; it's 60-something outside, 74 in here. Jeff and I brought in our patio furniture today -- after first cleaning it, and holy crap was it FILTHY ...

Re: GET OFF MY LAWN!

Yeah the guys mixing the sound are acting like you have a single speaker where they can direct most of the dialogue, so when your system doesn't do that the effect is mumblemumble. I think I do have a single speaker, though. At least, my TV isn't hooked up to any additional speakers; all sound come...

Re: GET OFF MY LAWN!

My 32-inch non-smart TV doesn't have SurroundSound, I don't think, but it DOES have the exact problem JD described for watching recent movies: people's speaking voices are barely above whispers, while the background music and any sound effects are ridiculously loud.

Re: Petty annoyances

We had regular ant infestations our first few months in Loudoun -- the night we first moved in to the place, before we'd carried a single molecule of food inside, we found ants crawling all over the empty kitchen counter -- but what eventually solved the problem for us was Jeff spraying Ortho insect...

Re: Twitter!

At least on my feed, Twitter has moved beyond showing me posts which are retweeted or "liked" by people I follow; I'm seeing occasional posts by people followed by someone I foll)ow. (Not posts liked or shared by someone I follow; I'll just see a post under that light-gray font reading "So and so fo...

I've seen a couple of possums since moving to Georgia. Damn, those things are ugly. Like giant rats that sharpened their faces in a pencil sharpener.

Re: Pleading the 25th

I get (some) of why people were initially into Trump. But I definitely don't get how they still are all in...what is the continuing appeal? Is it purely ego protection? For some no doubt it's an ego thing, or "Anything or anyone hated by liberals must be good," but I also fear there's a lot more ol...

Re: Mr. Robot: with spoilers

And another thing (yes, I'm ranting here) -- that scene in the Red Wheelbarrow barbecue shop, where the guy wants a milkshake and is told it costs $12.50 -- again, people are limited to 50 bucks per day . Who's going to pay one-quarter of their daily income on a single milkshake? I dunno if that pri...

Re: Mr. Robot: with spoilers

The eviction notice was a nod to whatsherface, (Kayla?) who is dead an nobody even realizes she is gone except she hasn't paid rent in 3 months. Ah, I forgot about Shayla. The show never mentions what Elliot did with her dead body, but IIRC the FBI knows she's dead, since she was on that big whiteb...

Re: When journalism goes bad

I was reading "How NBC ‘Killed’ Ronan Farrow’s Weinstein Exposé" and the thought occurred to me — could the "Jackie" Rolling Stone story collapse and subsequent lawsuits have anything to do with NBC killing the Weinstein story? I dunno -- I might be misremembering this (I haven't paid super -close ...

Re: Pleading the 25th

It's the Republican primary that would get him. If someone else emerges who people believe can do better than Trump in the general, the knives are going to come out and he won't even get to the general election. Of course, the tricky part is that there has to be one single "someone else" emerging, ...

Another thing -- this is inspired by a re-read of some posts here from last season -- I still am not satisfied with the tidbits they've given us regarding how the economic meltdown is effecting ordinary people. Last night's episode showed us a glimpse: when Elliot went to his apartment, there was a ...

I'm guessing that MediaMatters article was written in response (or as a followup to) Buzzfeed's recent article on "How Breitbart And Milo Smuggled Nazi and White Nationalist Ideas Into The Mainstream." https://www.buzzfeed.com/josephbernstein/heres-how-breitbart-and-milo-smuggled-white-nationalism?u...

Re: Pleading the 25th

Are these the same moderate Republicans who were going to keep Trump from the White House? Well, in the primary, they were split too many ways to get the early momentum. If Kasich and others had dropped out earlier, we might have either a president Cruz or president Hdawg. Not happy with either opt...

Re: Mr. Robot: with spoilers

I thought, at first, that the parallel universes in the opening scene was going to be a clever wink and nod to 'yeah, um, so all this anarchist amoral hacking potentially gave us Trump, and we don't really want to deal with that, so here's our story set in a parallel timeline' But then Elliot voice...

Damn, I really hope all this "time travel/parallel universes/undo the past" stuff turns out to be a bunch of red herrings. I enjoy that sort of science fiction in its place, but I've invested two seasons watching what seemed to be "realistic" sci-fi (as in, possible with only currently exiting level...

So, I was trying some Mountain House pouches out for lunch to scope them out for my emergency food supply, and I noticed that the "best by" dates were months in 2046 and 2047. Re: Mr. Robot: with spoilers

I re-watched season 2 last week to refresh my memory before season 3 begins tonight. I've also watched the season 3 trailers (two of them, at least), but I'm wondering how many "fakeouts" they contain -- for example, last season ended with Darlene in FBI custody, yet the trailers show scenes of her ...
