Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

Is this just more Trumpian bloviating, or the start of another bad thing the Republicans are going to enable?

Re: Orange is the new President

Somewhere in America, a sadistic little girl who daydreams about becoming a professional torturer when she grows up is feeling VERY inspired today.

She can practice for her future profession by beating the soles of her babydolls' feet.

Re: Orange is the new President

Gina Haspel got the job.

America is officially the type of country that tortures people, does not hold the torturers accountable, but DOES reward them with prestigious government jobs.

Dammit.

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

Mystery solved! One of my Facebook friends informed me that many "American Girl" dolls have tea parties in their storybooks -- and apparently there are tea parties held in actual American Girl doll-stores too (source: she took her niece to one).

Re: Random Observations C.A (306 pages is enough)

I refilled a prescription for megadose vitamin D, and at my local CVS, the pharmacy pickup line goes through the aisle where one side sells very cheap, impulse-purchase toys, including miniature tea sets featuring a tiny teapot, sugar bowl, and cups and saucers. And it occurred to me: most non-game,...

Re: I just don't get it

The story of Aaron Schlossberg (racist lawyer who lost his shit and threatened to call ICE on people he heard speaking Spanish) is another one of those boggle-my-mind issues. (Especially since the website of his soon-to-be-defunct law firm boasts of speaking Spanish, among other languages.) If heari...

Re: Petty annoyances

Something is VERY wrong with our air conditioner, which is fairly new (IIRC this one was installed in September 2016). Maintenance guy came by yesterday, determined the coolant levels in the outside unit were fine, but checked inside the utility closet and discovered the filter was utterly filthy--f...

I am amazed he's been getting away with as much as he has. I know the current crop of Republicans controlling Congress were corrupt, but for fuck's sake.

Re: Orange is the new President

If my husband were Donald Trump, I'd rather spend a week in a military hospital than go straight home. Even if I were only being treated for a hangnail. Walter Reed NMMC is to military hospitals what the Vatican is to roadside chapels. No doubt; I don't think Mrs. Trump #3 will wake up in the middl...

Re: Orange is the new President

Is anyone buying Haspel's newfound regrets on torture enhanced interrogation? Hell no. She wouldn't even answer a straightforward yes-or-no question regarding whether it was immoral. The accounts of torture I've read were downright horrifying -- in many cases, the sadists weren't even asking any qu...

Quelle surprise: maintenance never showed up. (It's now after nine pm and after full dark, so I'm confident in saying they won't be fixing the AC tonight.)

Re: Petty annoyances

[ Multiple mumbled obscenities ] So, our calls to the 24/7 emergency-maintenance hotline this weekend were never returned; I tried calling the regular maintenance number during office hours today and got a voicemail saying that number is not in service; finally walked to the office despite my offici...

Oh, hey look, SyFy cancelled a great show after it's third season. That's never happened before. Naturally; they'd rather spend their budget on such high-quality programming as Sharknado XVI, Robot Piranha Mecha Ebola Hitler , Giant Man-Eating Nuclear Squid and RandomScaryShitSlammedTogetherIntoASi...

In the 19th century, acne was called "chastity pustules," not because they'd keep you unwillingly chaste, but from the belief that virgins' bodies had difficulty expelling toxins.

Called the emergency number again. Also called (had Jeff call) the non-emergency number they'll presumably check after office hours start, since they clearly don't bother checking the actual 24/7 emergency hotline. Another petty annoyance: I cannot go for my daily exercise walk today. I mean, I coul...

Re: Petty annoyances

Aaaaand the fucking air conditioner isn't working. High today of 90 degrees. And we're on the top floor, with south-facing windows. That sounds like slightly more than petty, given where you live. Is the AC your responsibility or your landlord's? Landlord's. I called and left a message at the 24-ho...

Re: Ladyfashun

One of the lesser-cruel ironies of life: sweaty, dirty hair often looks better than clean hair. The AC is broken and it's hotter than hell, so without even looking in a mirror, I used a ponytail elastic and oversized butterfly/claw clip to get every strand of hair off my neck and back, and pile it o...

Gina Haspel should be tried for war crimes, not considered for a high-ranking government position. http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/gina-haspel-as-if-nuremberg-never-happened/ ...The second torture victim I met was while I was stationed in Iraq. The prison that had held him was under ...

OTOH, maybe I'm lucky enough to be among the majority of humanity immune to leprosy. (Though in reality it doesn't matter; if I lived in Hawaii I'd already have melanoma by now.) I cannot remember -- and don't feel like Googling it -- but there's one island whose population is limited to native Hawa...
