Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

He was clearly mocking people who were acting like going to this movie was like attending the Million Man March (wanting everyone to know it as they did). Had Shapiro chosen to similarly mock people who were carrying on about Wonder Woman ("What, getting the vote and the right to no-fault divorce w...

Re: When journalism goes bad

What lessons should be drawn from the most recent school shooting? That schools ought to Do Something to curb students' cellphone use. https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2018/02/17/586534079/should-the-parkland-shooting-change-how-we-think-about-phones-schools-and-safety?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=webs...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

Shapiro wasn't talking about them. Yes he was. It was a direct call out to that mentality. I haven't seen fans of the movie making those claims. I've seen it all over my Facebook feed as well as numerous articles saying as much during the run up. Some examples: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/12/ma...

Shapiro is now saying he liked the movie, FWIW.

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

I would actually agree with gist of what the Shapiro guy said (although I have no idea who the guy is). The gushing some proggies are doing over this movie is the worst kind of slacktivism. The idea that by going to this movie (and making sure everyone knows they are going to it) they are making so...

Holy shit. I saw this earlier but thought it was from the Onion's cartoonist. But no; it's Ben Garrison. This is what Trumpsters actually believe.

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

It's a movie where a warlord-king refuses to take in refugees and works with a CIA agent to stop an usurpation by a Black Power liberation guy. This is the sort of movie that conservatives would have orgasmed to in an earlier generation. Yeah, but it also makes black people happy and proud, which m...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

Ok, I saw it. I really, really liked it. Yeah, there were a few things I could nitpick, but it was a great super hero movie. But I don't get why liberals are spooging over it. The real mystery is why so many conservatives are so butthurt over it. This Ben Shapiro clip almost physically hurt to watc...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I'm just going to go ahead and admit that the first time I read Jennifer's latest comment, I read "Disney put out a movie about some little girls who are poor but eventually they save their penises ...." Obviously I never would've written such a thing -- when lady Disney characters achieve happines...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

How does Congress not impeach? A man that compromised can't run the government, unless he essentially agrees to be ceremonial head of state while Mike Pence is effectively PM. Typical liberal propaganda topped by an unhealthy dollop of wishful thinking. The whole system is corrupt and there's no re...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I'm imagining Peterson getting all gripey and butthurt now because, Disney put out a movie about some little girls who are poor but eventually they save their pennies and, via prudent investing and etc., end up quite prosperous. (There's a subplot involving an adorable anthropomorphic talking woodla...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Huh, so with the "archetypes" bit added to my search terms, I was able to find a transcript of Peterson's SB fondness, via "The Art of Manliness" (which is a very good and interesting blog much of the time, BTW, not an MRA blog despite the name AND the Peterson interview.) https://www.artofmanliness...

Re: I may want to see that?

The Communist murders were also far less thorough --the gulag for all its horror wasn't an extermination camp. Jews in Soviet Russia and Commie Europe in general certainly had a bad time of it with some of them being murdered, but Communism never tried to systematically wipe all ALL of them the way...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I tried to find a transcript so I could read what he said about Sleeping Beauty (Seriously, WTF is this "wisdom" which gets destroyed by Frozen's insidious message)? You'd think a guy as fond of tradition as Peterson would have some appreciation for the printed word in addition to videos.

Re: I may want to see that?

Woo that guy murdered and starved and imprisoned a lot of people guys. He's at least the Dan Marino of totalitarian murderers and I give him no credit for intent. His inadvertent starvation is just as bad as his deliberate actions. If we are playing hypotheticals, does a hitler win preclude a stali...

Re: I may want to see that?

I'm in the "Stalin was less-bad than Hitler" camp. It's true that Communism killed a lot more people than Nazism, but Communism also had a much longer timeline and much larger populations to work with. For example: in our for-reals timeline, much of postwar sub-Saharan Africa went Communist, fucking...

Re: If We Build It, They'll Probably Still Come

Goddamnit, this is just plain mean spirited... I'm just really troubled by this trend of not just playing with immigration numbers and visas and official immigration policy but of mean spiritedness on a personal level. Like with the blanket travel ban interfering with cultural and scientific co-ope...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

If we're talking about Frozen, I don't know why we're taking about Citizen Kane and not Transformers 3. Because Peterson said that “art” is not political. Citizen Kane is pretty universally viewed as art, while Transformers is not. Strictly speaking, he said art couldn't be created with a political...

So what you’re saying is, if you don’t have anything terrible to say about Peterson, you should be prohibited from the thread. Who said that? FWIW, I'm still trying to figure out what point you were attempting to make when you responded to mentions of stupid things Peterson said and did with allusi...

In the category of "Fruits That Kill With Gravity" I really like jackfruit. It hits all of the right notes. Tropical, floral, texture is interesting but not slimy. Bonus: if you buy a whole one you can break out the machete to get into it. If you don't like juicy fruit gum this is not the fruit for...

Re: Idiocracy is here

If the commercials weren't effective then the advertisers wouldn't be able to afford to run them. With a $40 price tag on what's probably a $5 bear, you don't need many hits to come out ahead. Especially when you're advertising on what is essentially the Dogpatch Herald of the TV world. After all, ...

I don't know; if he posted a video about that movie it hasn't gained much traction. Is there an actual point you're trying to make, albeit in a humorous fashion? If so I seem to be missing it; would you mind stating it straightforwardly? I get the presumed joke of "Anytime someone mentions a stupid ...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Was he stupid enough to videotape himself kicking the kitten, then published it as an example of proper masculine behavior in today's hectic modern world? Because his complaints about Frozen propaganda actually were handled like that; it's not a case of someone secretly recording him when he thought...

Re: Idiocracy is here

It is relatively rare for me to see commercials anymore because most TV I watch was DVR'd and I fast-forward through the ads. But last night, that Hitler documentary was on more for background noise than anything else, and since it was NOT prerecorded I could not skim through the ads. Maybe in an al...
