Re: on sale now, limited quantities available!

If you do sell on Craigslist then in addition to accepting cash-only, do NOT have the buyers come to your house or anything. Some police departments advertise their lobbies or parking lots as "safe spaces" for Craigslist transactions; maybe yours is one? (Even if not, I doubt a would-be criminal wou...

Re: Observations of the Random sort

BTW, I chose "Comcast" for that example not because they're uniquely horrible in internet terms, but because of the three states where I've lived since the millennium turned, it so happens that Comcast has ALWAYS been my only internet option.

Re: Observations of the Random sort

A decade ago, when the debate was still called "network neutrality" rather than shortened to "net," I read an example from one pro-NN columnist who gave an example of how the old landline phone monopoly was required to behave as a "common carrier" with the phone equivalent of "net neutrality" -- you...

Re: on sale now, limited quantities available!

I wish I could tell you something useful about the other possibilities you mentioned, but I can't; all I can say is, unless you are a bigga-time "power seller" (which you are not), stay the HELL away from eBay.

I wish there were an affordable digital alarm clock with a 24-hour rather than 12-hour setup. I overslept today because I screwed up the am and pm settings on my clock.

Wow, those smoked turkey drumsticks we bought were REALLY good. I'm not used to turkey meat having actual flavor.

Re: on sale now, limited quantities available!

I used to sell on eBay a loooong time ago, before they required PayPal and other sundry things. From what I've heard, the changes since then make it very bad for small-time sellers. (At my consumer-writer job, I recall writing a few stories about lawsuits based on eBay's "seller is always wrong" pol...

Historians living far enough in the future to not have any personal dogs in this fight (and DO have more of a big-picture view than any of us now are capable of having) might well say Trump (or someone very like him) was the inevitable result of the GOP's culture war/"Southern strategy" gambit: firs...

Damn. This show got a lot darker, these past two episodes. Huge disappointment abut Trenton and Mobley.

I only like sweet potatoes in the form of salted French fries, and even then only if the frying and texture and salt levels and everything else are just so. Otherwise, yecch. Even as a sugar-craving little kid with FAR more of a sweet tooth than I have now, I hated candied or sweetened sweet potatoe...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

I never heard of Jordan Peterson until I started reading this thread yesterday, but his bitching that it's "ideological" (and presumably inappropriate) to teach six-year-olds to keep their hands to themselves and refrain from licking other people tells me pretty much all I need to know about him, I ...

Re: Thanksgiving: the most delicious time of the year

Jeff and I went to the grocery store last night intending to buy our usual-for-us turkey drumsticks or thighs (an entire turkey, even a small one, is far too much meat for just the two of us -- especially seeing how I don't particularly like turkey very much, considering it merely an inferior-tastin...

and the funny thing is none of this stuff happens like this if clinton wins the election last year.
I've actually seen a little uncomfortable commentary to that effect. I tend to agree.
Maybe it's the political equivalent of "You won't be inspired to improve until AFTER you hit rock bottom."

I'm not surprised to hear more Franken allegations; if anything I'd be surprised not to. It's never a case of "This man has always been perfectly well-behaved and respectful around women -- except for that ONE WOMAN with whom he just could not resist." No, if a man is a sexist asshole toward one wom...

And, as you said, that it's really all about the rewriting is the biggest lesson. My biggest failing as a writer is editing too much as I write. Editing is another thing which, like describing details, can be bad if there's too much but also bad if there's too little. If you have an unfinished work...

I just worry that I'm being too sparse on descriptions. On one hand, it's a fantastical setting that I want to give the readers a sense of; on the other, I try to focus on what the characters who live in the setting actually find important, interesting, threatening, etc. It's generally a good appro...

Not exactly; now it leads to the Times' internal search page, with the terms "Copy Edit This! Quiz" typed in. And nine quizzes. I'm guessing you wanted to link to #9?

I am disgusted -- but sadly not-surprised -- by the self-described self-deluded so-called "feminists" defending Al Franken via smearing his accuser, solely because the accuser was a Playboy model. Or a gun-rights supporter. https://twitter.com/Belairviv/status/931385471187472385 (Molesting a "bespec...

Roy Moore's gun moll of a wife gave a press conference saying that Doug Jones "is against everything we and Alabama believe and stand for." Zod forbid the state turn into the sort of nightmare hellscape where Klansmen can't even bomb a church without being prosecuted for it!
