Re: Food

After several good-faith attempts over the years to train myself to become adept at chopsticks, I have basically given up and now use/ask for a fork when I can. I'm no longer embarrassed to ask, at least here in america fuck yeah. If I even get the opportunity to travel to Japan or China, I'll recon...

Yah I like grilling okay and I love eating on patio, but in terms of overall cooking happiness, Dutch Oven braising season is my favorite.
A late cosign to this.

Yeah, it hit the NYC - New Haven corridor (and beyond, I'm sure) at the worst possible time. My usual 10 minute ride home took almost an hour. My boss, who lives about 45 minutes away, turned back and spent the night at the office.

Weird fucking storm.

Re: Home $weet Home

In those situations I've found it expedient to just put the TV covering the fireplace, not above the mantle. But then I'm the kind of cousin-fucking dirt person who can't tell jackfruit from breadfruit. Well, I'm a born-n-bred swamp yankee and can't tell jackfruit from breadfruit neither, but I do ...

It more just came to mean “lying,” which is dumb because the point was to describe something much more specific than that.
No, my dear, you're mistaken. It's always only meant lying. You must be confused.

Why is she going 3 months without a salary?

Did she quit her job to run for office? Did she even have a job?

I confess to knowing next to nothing about her except through memes.

I have minor hate for tv over fireplace. Too high. You should not visit casa de Pham right now. I'm not in charge of anything right now so it looks hideous. Depends on the room. My living room is long & narrow, so the only place for the TV is over the fireplace. We're sitting far enough away that t...

Re: Home $weet Home

I'm pretty much orthogonal to all you guys, I think. We have a breakfast nook adjacent to the kitchen (with a bay even), and a small table in it. We have a separate dining room on the other side of the kitchen with a normal door opening, but it's then got an archway to the living room. We have a 10...

The only thing worse and more business-speaky than using "challenges" to refer to problems that one wants fixed is calling them "opportunities" No, the damn software isn't working as expected. That's a fucking problem. Yeah, my boss is huge, HYUGE!, into whatever the equivalent modern pedagog...

The only place I'd consider open carry as acceptable is in/on public parks, hiking trails, etc. Mainly because if you are hiking, you might be humping some gear, and concealed carry at that point just seems dumb. Also the fact that if you're carrying because of wildlife, you're generally going to wa...

Re: the list of those things which are not food

I like both white & dark chicken. Dark is deffo more flavorful, but yeah, flattened breasts to stuff & roll or turn into cutlets for sandwiches or parm is a thing. Regarding pig uteri, I'd probably have no issues with it since I've done home made sausage with natural casings, and you know what those...

My favorite part of canvassing or lit dropping the weekend after Halloween is eating the occasional piece of candy I find on someone's driveway.
Well hello stranger. Where have you been?
He's been eating driveway candy. Can't you read?

Sabrina was OK. I found it interesting that they found an actress who looks like the perfect blend of Melissa Joan Hart and Emma Watson.

I wonder if this tiny house craze is the natural reaction to a couple decades of constant mcmansion expansion, the same way seasonal allergies are an overreaction to weird shit in the air.

Not a one this year. As usual, I took the pups upstairs and watched TV for a couple hours while Sue handled treat-giving responsibilities. I heard a few groups go by, and the front door opening & closing a few times, but Sue said no one showed. She checked when she heard the groups too, but they all...

I recently learned that one of my wife's colleagues and her husband, folks we're pretty friendly with outside her work, have gone prepper over the last several years. To the point where they both got their CCW permits, amassed a pretty decent assortment of firearms, train with them regularly, and ar...

Cooking for others is fundamentally social to me. Open forever. My stated - if slightly tongue in cheek - requirements for my next hood are 1) I should be suck a chicken wing directly off of my cooktop and blow it outside and 2) it should make no sound in the process. If you ever find this, let me ...

Markets, creative destruction, yadda yadda and all that, I'm kinda saddened by the collapse of Sears. Thing is, Sears collapsed twenty years ago. It's been on life support. And now they're pulling the plug. Well, yeah. Still nostalgia-sad. I got the sads back when Kmart put in fast food chains in p...
