Re: Ultramodern relationship problems

A friend of mine is a tinkerer and wired up his house and chicken coop using Raspberry Pi devices, which I don't think need IOT access. Internet of Chickens. I like it. EDIT: I was just joking, but... https://www.google.com/search?q=%22internet+of+chickens%22 He actually had a chicken cam up for a ...

Re: Ultramodern relationship problems

2) a young woman posting about saying "nice dog" to a guy on Tinder and getting a gross, rapey response back, which is apparently typical. You lost me. https://twitter.com/sheratesdogs has some prime examples of this. I can't follow that either. Is "nice dog" an insult? And that prompts the gross r...

Re: Ultramodern relationship problems

I'm intrigued by the idea of a somewhat automated house. Voice activation could be cool if it wasn't tied into the IOT. But I'm lazy, so *shug*. A friend of mine is a tinkerer and wired up his house and chicken coop using Raspberry Pi devices, which I don't think need IOT access. Stuff like automate...

Yeah, I think fresh fried clams aren't that common from maybe the Chesepeake Bay down south. Mainly becasue the hard-shell clams used for them (quahog family) don't grow down south. They're cold-water clams. What you get instead are oysters, scallops, and of course all kinds of shellfish. Fried oyst...

It is pretty bad if you're not creative or skilled in the manufacture or assembly of sartorial ideograms and find horror movies lame. What's missing from Halloween is the terror. People should dress up as ghosts and demons and unnameable horrors from the beyond, so that the same don't catch you out...

Re: To DVDs and Beyond: The Netflix Thread

Recently watched the first two seasons of Dark . It's a German show that's kind of dark sci-fi, although that doesn't really describe it entirely. It's about time travel which usually isn't something I'm much into, but it does a lot of neat mind bendy things as it has a fairly unique version of tim...

Re: Guns and Whatnot.

If he worked the slide on a PPK without scraping his grip hand with the rails he no only knows guns but knows the inevitable curse of that particular gun. Possibly the least realistic Bond scenes are the ones where he shoots and doesn’t say “ouch I scraped the flesh off my hand”. I bought a PPK/S l...

Are there any well-known examples of a socialist corporation set up that way from the get-go, meaning all the employees own shares of all the equipment and partake, more-equally, of all the income assigned to compensation? ETA - Never mind. I found this. It's a beginning. (Publix... whattayaknow...)...

I'm wrapping up Ken MacLeod's The Corporation Wars trilogy. 25 light years from Earth around a habitable solar system, mining robots gain sentience and AI-directed 'Dis-Corporates' awaken human mind-states from storage to put down the 'bots in realspace using combat frames and equipment. Human minds...

Re: Food

My wife made a really awesome slow-cooked pork in an orange/garlic/cilantro mojo, with some onions and cubanelle peppers stewed with it. Goes really great with black beans and rice. Did similar a few weeks back. Marinaded a pork butt in OJ/garlic/oregano/cinnamon/chili flakes for a day, then seared...

An acquaintance is selling his LMT AR-15 in .308. If I had money burning a hole in my pocket... I've gotten to shoot an AR-10 (which is essentially what you describe, but dunno if there's a technical difference) and it was very nice. Actually a really good feel compared to an AR-15-clone I'd fired ...

I have this feeling you occupy a space that a certain type of person has been waiting for decades to encounter as confirmation of the slippery anti life slope we are on. I've spent a loooooong time wishing we lived in the fantasy worlds of my enemies. My midmorning feed is now full of (a) moms and ...

There's ... something I'm trying to articulate here and I can't quite get it - about front row/back row. I don't like the framing but there is a cultural issue in the neighborhood. It kind of has to do with who gets to sneer at whom and where. So, let's make the whole front row / back row environme...
