Re: A thread for mocking politicians

*comes running in* I heard there was buggery planned? Unbridled! Not necessarily. In one of my parenting groups, a mom mentioned her son is into My Little Pony but wasn't sure if he should call himself a "brony" in case it had sexual connotations. A bunch of other people chimed in that yes, they're...

It's weird that medicine is the only industry that has to deal with free rider/shrinkage problems. I guess if retail, food service, hospitality etc ever had problems like that they would come crying to government for mandataxes too.
You think they dont?

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

I will never understand the obsession with that feature as a lynchpin of reform. We already have a mandatory insurance purchase program or three. Nobody who voted on it was confused about this feature then woke up and were like “it’s a tax oh noes!” What other mandatory insurance programs are there...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Medicare reimbursements are about 80% of private insurance. Interestingly, I hung out with a friend of mine who said that O-care saved hospitals a ton of money because costs associated with EMTALA went away. So without looking at reduced costs (say administrative costs) it’s difficult to say what t...

Time to go cross eyed staring at our future so I can choose the least destructive among them. At some point, you don't need to look too close, because the actual thing imposed (if any) is going to fought over (and fought against) by people who don't give a shit what we think. That is my understandi...

Ballad wasn't much on the dark side of their usual stuff. More like Aesop's fables brought to you by the Coen Brothers. It was entertaining but not much on the dark humor.

New genetic evidence strongly suggests that the plague was present in Europe 4900 years ago or more, much earlier than anyone had thought, and it may explain a mysterious ancient European population crash. That's actually really interesting to me. The virulence plasmids for yersinia pestis seem to ...
