Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

Solo was a pretty good movie, but at the same time...I watched Han Solo die. I also know who he married. It's a little challenging to get too wrapped up in the stakes of a movie in that situation.

OMG that giant block of sharp cheddar cheese

*fans self*
And it's Tillamook, which is, objectively speaking, the best cheese there is. It's the only thing Oregonians produce that doesn't have a superior counterpart from Washington.

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

I dunno about better but the behavior is inconsistent with the “owned by the kremlin” narratives. You have to really stretch to make that fit. Not when you consider that he's actively avoiding the enforcement of a lot of Russia regulations, including the new sanctions he fought tooth and nail to ke...

Re: To Infinity War and Beyond: the MCU Thread with Spoilers

Deadpool was good and extremely funny, though I liked the first one better. The Rusty Collins character wasn't very likable, and it was hard for me to care about his subplot as a result. I also get why Reynolds is eager to return to a lower-key style in terms of effects; it did seem a bit lazier tha...

Re: Occam, Trump, and Russia

I like how expanding the Magnitsky Act is somehow more meaningful than passing the act. Especially when you only signed it under duress, and are actively avoiding enforcing it to the best of your ability. Also, while the military did kill Russian mercs, it was because those troops attacked a US ins...

That modicum is even adjusted on a curve for con people. It's a teeny tiny modicum, far less than normal life situations might require. Yeah, it's like "can you have a conversation involving at least 80% non-staring at her tits eye focus? Don't even have to be looking at her, just not at anything b...

Kinda. I mean, it's a mutually beneficial arrangement, actually. Hard to describe that as "having them by the balls" unless you view all commerce that way.

Bet the Republicans would've fallen in and voted for her had the Dems been stronger in their opposition. It was the knowledge that their vote wouldn't matter that made them willing to stick their neck out.

Here's what I don't get, the Dems in blue states that flipped. Do they really think that Haspel is really the tipping point that will keep a voter from leaving them? Why burn a challenge on something** when it's not going to matter either way? They won't keep any votes, but it won't lose anyone eit...

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

I'm reminded of how the reputation of SF fans is "guys who can't get laid" and yet how much outright debauchery, up to and including orgies, happens at any sizable convention. Yeah, bathe daily and have a modicum of social skills and a willingness to strike out a couple times, and it's hard not to ...

So much retconning...so...much...retconning... Seriously, though, Painboy is hardly the first to notice the weird inconsistency that if this was such an effective tactic, you'd expect to have seen it used or at least mentioned before. Also, if going to lightspeed is so massively destructive if ther...

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

Move out of the way? How are you going to move out of the way of something going lightspeed? You literally quoted my answer to that. You use the minute or so it takes the hyperdrive to lock in coordinates and engage to move out of the path of the oncoming ship. How's that going to work for the Deat...

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

It takes the better part of a minute at best to plot a hyperspace course, even if you're apparently just planning to ram someone else. A standard-sized Star Destroyer could avoid this sort of attack by... moving out of the way. It only worked in TLJ because the ship they hit was so huge, it couldn't...

Re: Powerful Mice in Space (The New Star Wars Gripe Thread)

For instance if all it takes to do serious damage or destroy a big ship is to hyperspace into it why didn't the rebels do that to the original death star? Because they didn't have any ships with enough mass to destroy a small planet. The Executor crashing into Death Star II doesn't even seem to imp...

Still seems less trivial than you know planets that are also space ships.
The only slug crimelord that takes a check in our world is orange and lives on Pennsylvania Avenue. For everyone else, there's hard currency. Why would Star Wars be any different?

Also, isn't the canon that Incom Corporation split from supplying what became the Empire to exclusively provide weaponry to the Rebellion. And since Ties are made by Seinar, it would be odd to have a single arms dealer selling both. It would be like a someone selling both F-35s and F/A-18s. You mig...

You have to look at the Ewoks from the right perspective. Don't let their cuteness decieve you. They are actually hardcore murderbears. I mean barring Force intervention they were planning on eating Han. All those Stormtrooper helmets they were playing...where were the bodies? In the soup that's wh...

They already have 95% of Avengers 4 filmed, so it'd pretty much have to be a teaser thing. Fantastic Four would be easy. Chuck the origin story, and get the guy who wrote the first National Treasures movie to do the script. The Fantastic Four aren't supposed to be "fuck shit up fam" superheroes, the...

All I'm going to say is, from a character perspective, having Thanos be sexually attracted to Death makes a lot more sense. I mean, "gee Thanos, what are you going to do in 300 years when literally the *exact* same problems come up, since you haven't actually done anything to engender homeostasis i...
