Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

Aren't congresscritters required to maintain a residence in their district? Yes they are, which is the source of the difficulty here. A normal person could just sell their house or break their lease, and not have to worry about two residences. Oh, right, because anyone who can organize and win a ca...

Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

I don't think empathy on that scale is a thing, jen. The sneers I've seen basically boil down to "She should be able to handle this with no difficulty" Considering that in the exact same tweet that she announced the problem, she said "don't worry btw - we're working it out!" it doesn't sound like t...

Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

Again, the pretense that her situation is similar to the general public's doesn't hold up. Again, she never represented it as being similar to a situation faced by the general public. It was fundamentally a comment about the difficulties non-wealthy people face in serving in Congress, that was made...

The Blues don't give a shit about the Dreamers or the children separated from families beyond how they can manipulate the issue to get votes.
By your reckoning, does anybody genuinely care about anything?

Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

None of that relates to her actual complaint , which was "until I get my first paycheck, I can't afford a DC apartment." *looks at his post* A third of the people in DC make under the poverty line, but they manage to live there. So it's not that she can't afford a place, but that she can't afford a...

Re: Calling 2024 for AOC

The Sandy thing, shouted as if it's revealing some dark secret, is maybe even more mystifying than the dancing thing. IMO, even the sneers about her being unable to afford a DC apartment in addition to the NYC apartment she already has are downright baffling. How out-of-touch with normal (as oppose...

Re: Orange is the new President

Maybe they don't have the heater on, or have it on stupid-low. My recollection from the few meetings I went to there and the input of others who had worked there was that the place is insanely difficult to heat, as you'd expect from a 200-year-old building. Supposedly, Truman described it as "the c...

Team Hugh.

I mean, Hell, Obama started out with a Blue-dominated Congress, and he didn't exactly transform a lot before the midterms.
And not just Blue-dominated. A filibuster-proof 60 Blue Senators for part of that time.
One of whom was Joe Lieberman. Just saying.

Not a statement of support or opposition, just a perhaps premature prognostication.
Considering she'll be 35 a week before the election, very premature.

1) It doesn't appear to be a sit-down affair. (Not a chair in sight.) 2) I am dubious of the ability of any football team to cope with lobster or eat without using their fingers. Nor would I trust them with anything better than chinette. 3) It's a meet and greet with a bunch of 20-somethings, not a...

A presumably private, cash-only Canadian hospital operating outside the system is hardly a violation of his principles.
It's private, but neither cash-only nor outside the system. They're grandfathered in, so they take private and public insurance both.

They almost certainly can't be in-network, and Canada does NOT just give free non-emergent-care to tourists and very recent immigrants (when my employer was transferring my job to Canada one of the things they pointed out was that they were including three months' medical insurance to cover the gap...

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is going to Canada for hernia surgery Which would ordinarily be a "who cares" situation, but for comments like this: “With regard to the idea whether or not you have a right to health care ... It means you believe in slavery," Paul said in 2011. "You are going to enslave not...

I'm not sure you can call "any cancer that requires more treatment than cutting it out" an exceptional case. Even the cheap chemo treatments will get you into midsized sedan territory within a few months. Which is considerably less than multiple houses. It's not like you have to pay up front. The d...

Think of it more as being in the Friend Zone with the status quo. Once you show them how reasonable and level-headed you are by going along with whatever they do, they're bound to start respecting your views. Are you actually willing to burn it all down? If not, you're right in there too. If so ......
