See Kmart. Sears.
That's the same company, and has been for 15 years. Both being mismanaged by the same guy for much of that time.

Re: Inequality

Bain doesn't show up if the entity in question isn't on life support. What you are objecting to really is the final blow in a decline that should probably have taken less time to play out. Selling off pieces is entirely the right thing to do with Sears. That's just a post hoc rationalization for pr...

Re: Orange is the new President

I'm curious if it wasn't so that it could be leaked to the US press around election time to further drive a wedge, especially if they have a way to later prove that it wasn't true and further undermine the credibility of the notion of the responsible press. One of Putin's big goals seems to be to d...

The Russians are offering money to Afghanis to have them travel to America and kill people? That does seem over the line. It was to kill coalition soldiers in Afghanistan, not to go to the US. To me, the report sounds like dezinformatsiya since I can see no benefit - direct or indirect - for Russia...

Trump not responding to Putin's bounties on American soldiers. Is this what finally sinks the orange ship? Maybe. Will Trumpers find a way to fanwank it away? Yes. Or is it serious enough to lose him his core base but some other disaster is going to come along to distract everyone before that can h...

The only issue I've heard about antibody tests is how much resources they tie up. Staff, ppe, regular supplies, lab equipment, etc. And it cant tell you if you have active infection. Only that you had/have it. There's also the issue that nobody is clear how accurate they are , how well they can det...

Early crops will be rotting in the fields in less than a few weeks most likely. I wonder how soon we will see that become a political issue, or if they just give farmers cash/insurance payouts and the rest of us just suck up higher prices. If you mean right now, I would bet you almost anything it's...

Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

The problem is that it often, though not always*, gives tiny ass fringe parties a disproportionate say. If you’re 3% of seats from a majority, and some fringe party gets you over the top as long as you give in to their single issue that they care about, they’ll push it. * Though the Tories still th...

The comparison between WWII war footing activities and mask-wearing is interesting, but not for the reason some people think. My grandfather was a Chief in the Navy when Pearl Harbor happened. He mustanged up at the start of the war, when they suddenly needed a massive influx of new officers. He was...

I feel like people think I'm arguing "Presidential System sucks, Parliament rules." I'm not. They both have benefits and drawbacks. My original point was that the system was actually created with the idea that "accomplishing stuff" shouldn't necessarily be the easiest thing in the world. That it doesn't respond fast and has trouble making all the pieces work in concert isn't a bug; it's a feature. And there are good things about...

Bluntly we have insisted that the feds do things that we once thought it was pretty clear they weren't supposed to do. Because outcomes. Re: Corona(virus)? ITS NOT EVEN BEER DAMMIT!!!

No, it's more of a clarification in my view that distributed and oppositional power isn't structurally a problem if accountability lines are clear. But the whole point of the US system of checks and balances is that they aren't clear, and that the people are supposedly protected by the different po...

I don't think the issue of oppositional power bases is as much of an issue as the post great society accountability and sphere of control squish. States suck in significant part because there are national programs that they get to blame for local problems. People in general have national views of p...
