My debate assessment: (topicality? In my gryll?) Biden =Abe Simpson Klobuchar - that girl whose dad is President of the chamber of commerce who gets *really* intense about the student council president elections Gabbard - Russian stooge Warren - Jimmy Stewart in Mr. Smith without the sincerity Sand...

Re: Dancing With the Dems

oh gawd I don't know. Biden? Butt? I was really trying to talk myself into E Warren not being as bad as she seemed because of primaries, but ... every specific proposal is worse than the last. Like, I believe there is room in the US for higher tax rates on a broad base, a VAT for example, to pay fo...

I know? I was just clarifying the flavor of UK unemployment.
That's exactly the same as US flavor in at least 45 states.

Re: Whither the GOP? (post-Trump edition)

The “i never realized Michelle Malkin was a bigot” moment by conservatives is hi-fucking-larious The only thing funnier would be Michelle Malkin's face as the alt-right trolls she once defended loaded her onto a train car headed for an undisclosed location in the Midwest. Or as she has her citizens...

Re: Money for Nothing: the Universal Basic Income

I confess I don't know anything about "the dole" besides hearing references to it in some of the British novels I've read. From my extremely ignorant perspective, it sounds a little like UBI -- kind of like money for nothing, but not very much, just enough to get by? Or am I way off base? (yes, I c...

I hope all the people complaining about congestion in the subway are also planning to arrest everyone who walks around slowly staring at their phones. Bonus points for doing it as you walk up the stairs. Are you also irked about people who make throwaway comments about the weather without donating ...

Re: Masculinity, so fragile

Short story: " The Feminist " I thought it was pretty good until the picnic; the rest felt weaker and cliche to me. It's interesting that mass shooting ending actually feels less transgressive than having him die in ignominy would have been. As it was, it copped out and turned power fantasy at the ...

As I recall, Congress was trying to impeach and remove the Postmaster General, and a witness failed to comply. The courts backed Congress.

They can also have the Sergeant-at-arms lock people up in the Congressional hoosegow, but only for as long as they're in session. Have they ever actually done so for m...

That being said, what it might have significance for is the prospect of more governors attempting to put ideological acts against Obamacare into practice. Let's bear in mind that Bevin was not what you'd call a well-loved candidate, that every other state office went to Republicans and that the margin for the gubernatorial race stands at around .4%. It's not like there's any sort of Blue Wave happening in Kentucky and the Mississippi race seems certa...

The only unrealistic part was, I doubt a rent-a-cop working Christmas Day would be anywhere near as conscientious as the one in the show. Impossible to take it seriously. I do not take the violence part seriously at all - it’s the idea that 2019 left people think it’s possible to seek other than clownish when they roll this out.
I had always been under the impression "being clownish" is often a big part of "making a joke."

Are UFC fans more likely to follow Katie Couric or Rush Limbaugh?
If they're under 45, they're most like to ask why they'd follow either one of those people, since they're both Boomer bait with some, limited, Gen-X crossover (that's decreasing with every passing minute).
