Re: What are you reading?

I finished The Tunnel about a month ago and then re-read the first 100 pages to see if they made any more sense. They did, but the first 100 are by far the hardest. After that, the blend of memoir and never-ending griping becomes easier to follow. Now I'm halfway through my re-read of Gravity's Rain...

Re: How's the weather? v. 1.1

I think there have only been two 100-degree days this month, and there might've been more days in the 80s than in the 90s. The forecast for Memorial Day is under 80 degrees. This is probably the nicest May since I've been living here.

Re: What's New at the Bijou?

I love NR movie reviews. They are so bonkers that reading them makes me feel like I'm high even when dead sober. Like this Aladdin one is especially bonkers . It's one part "Will Smith as genie is bad because he is evocative of Uncle Remus". But, Uncle Remus is actually good so Disney should re-rel...

Sure the Terminator franchise has let me down before with Terminator 3, Salvation, and Genisys, but this time they're definitely gonna follow through on making a third good Terminator movie.
I didn't see Edward Furlong in that trailer, so no sale.

Pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeños is the best topping combo. Savory, salty, sweet, acidic, and spicy.

The MIC doesn't want us to go to war against anyone who can reasonably shoot back. The only people who came out badly in GWOT are the guys who make the M1

Are you talking about the M1 Garand? I thought that went out of service decades ago.

More bad movie viewing from the last month! Day 1: 1. First up was Snake Eater II with Lorenzo Lamas. I had to order this one on DVD because it’s not available through streaming (I and III are available for whatever reason). After the entertainment value of I and III, this one was a big letdown. It ...

This sounds an awful lot like confiscating assets from people she doesn't like: When we say “tax the rich,” we mean nesting-doll yacht rich. For-profit prison rich. Betsy DeVos, student-loan-shark rich. Trick-the-country-into-war rich. Subsidizing-workforce-w-food-stamps rich. Because THAT kind of r...

It’s the debate we should be having. Swedish style social programs funded in a credible way like Sweden does vs something closer to what we have now. Neither side wants that. You could do that exact meme where instead of talking about the programs you were talking about funding. Double taxes on low...

Some 1970s country-rock with lots of pedal steel: 1. A 24-minute performance by the New Riders of the Purple Sage at The Beat Club in 1972. It features Buddy Cage on pedal steel, and he's very upfront in the mix. The long closing version of "I Don't Need No Doctor" has several screaming parts by him...

Where I work, "gays and trans people are degenerate queers who need to go back into the closet" would get me fired way before "the troops are baby killers and should all be tried and executed for war crimes." Perhaps that's just my department.

This is good news, apart from the high prices. I don't mind the word incel being coined, but I hate the way it's used.
I like how much it reveals about the people using it.
You mean the people self-describing as such or the people using it as a pejorative?
The latter.
