Biz-gentrification: A West Loop alderman who often presses developers to set aside more units for low- and moderate-income residents than they are required by city ordinance now wants a developer to set aside affordable commercial space as well. At a Plan Commission meeting Thursday, Ald. Walter Bu...

Ah yes, the famously homogenous Swiss. With their four national languages. Not to mention everyone speaking another one that isn’t even an official language. https://www.mediamatters.org/video/2018/07/20/nratv-correspondent-pushes-white-nationalist-talking-point-praising-cultural-homogeneity-air/22...

Nearly half of Republicans (47 percent) believe that Trump won the popular vote, which is similar to this finding. Larger fractions believe that millions of illegal immigrants voted (68 percent) and that voter fraud happens somewhat or very often (73 percent). Again, this is similar to previous pol...

I am a lousy fisherman, but the taste of a salmon fillet grilled over an open fire just hours after it was swimming in the ocean is one of the joys of life.

I wouldn't want to live in a house without toilets, myself.
Well, there is this little number: 700 rooms, no baths (in the original plan)

In the late 1980s, people living in the forests around the India/Bangladesh border were having problems with tiger attacks, until everybody was issued plastic face masks to wear on the backs of their heads. That made the tiger-attack rate drop, because the tigers thought people were looking at them...

From a DHSS Alaska brochure about WIC foods: "Why is peanut butter so good for me? ... It has plant fat instead of animal fat with has less CHORESTROYL"

I don't know why this is making me laugh so hard
CHORESTROYL = the substance produced by rendering out a Betazoid.

It's interesting that the intelligence community is willing to leak the fact that the information came from somebody close to Putin. That fact hadn't previously leaked. Presumably the leak came now because the source is either dead or in hiding. And given the number of high-level Russian diplomats ...

For me a lot of it is the thin-skinned endless butthurt combined with the aggressive "I'm so macho and you're all pussies" posturing. This. NYC tough guy-ism is the worst. I would love to see all of that type have to do tours when young men in parts of the country where they wouldn't be able to rea...

It seems like I've seen a lot of pearl-clutching from Trump haters, though. Unless I'm just noticing that more because it's on the brain, when really it's just one in an endless series of their pearl clutches for the week. I think it's because actually experiencing things like that press conference...
