Re: Orange is the new President

Even if Cruz and Bush pandered to the same kind of elements that love Trump in the general election, they're politicians. They wouldn't actually follow through on their rhetoric. Just as they wouldn't really get into a trade war with China, or threaten to end NAFTA or leave NATO or any of that. The...

Re: There's a Word for That

I believe there is a word for a real person portrayed in fiction, but given another name. eg: The story has a 'fictional' person who unmistakably is Barbara Streisand or Donald Trump, but they are given another name. Anyone with better vocabulary recall? Roman a clef. With a backwards-accent mark o...

MAGA in Spaaaaaaaaaaace He says it will be 'separate' from the air force. Does this mean another military academy for Space Cadets? Does the Air Force even have it's own academy? http://www.usafa.af.mil/ Also, does this mean he will 'hex the pentagon'? (Apologies to Jerome Lawrence) Jerome Lawrence...

Not to be "that guy," but let me just be anyway: concentration camps for children is something that could only have happened under Trump. Meh. In the world where Trump keeled over before the Team Red debates, people would be going on about how "Only Ted Cruz" or "Only Jeb Bush" would be doing this ...

I was wondering why all of the sudden a bunch of conservatives started to care about Pruitt's corruption this week. Was it some sort of delayed conscience? Or perhaps good old fashioned ag interests?

A sobering and worthwhile read about the psychological toll of being a military drone operator: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/13/magazine/veterans-ptsd-drone-warrior-wounds.html Interesting, but I'm still more interested in how effective it really is. Also, given the tendency of technology to get...

Re: The Not-So- and All-Too-Real World of North Korea

My read on Trump is he treats those he perceives as threats and rivals with cordiality while treating those as less so with disdain. It's all part of that "Art of the Deal" crap he seems to live for. He knows he has leverage on Canada and Mexico so uses it every chance he gets to get the "best" dea...

FFS. So the choice is childish taunts or knob gobbling? *shrug* It's Donald Trump. People only exist to please him or displease him. If Trudeau had flattered his ego enough, Trump probably would have spent some time blabbing weird compliments about him or Canada. Probably involving the words "stron...

Yes, that's about as diplomatic as Trump has ever been. Two problems: 1) Wouldn't it be nice if he could be at least as diplomatic with frickin' Canada? Sure. That's why I said it shocked me. That said, Canada isn't a twitchy little country menacing anyone with nuclear weapons. *checks secret bunke...

North Korean State media says Trump agreed to lift sanctions. So either it happened, in which case he offered to give away the house for nothing, or it didn't happen, and the North Koreans are already lying about the content of the meeting. Either way, this whole pageant was just as idiotic as ever...

It should be well established now that Trump just likes to spontaneously say stuff because he thinks it sounds good to him (often much to the surprise of his own administration). We'll have to wait to see what actually happens later. He does seem to base everything he does on media, and that's how ...

Re: Orange is the new President

The noises about the end of the military exercises (they're not actually going to end them, there's no constituency anywhere in DC for that.
