Re: OFFS: The Forsakening

They expanded the number of best picture nominees so that they could nominate movies like Black Panther. Mad Max was also nominated, for pretty much the same reason; they need a popular, middlebrow high performer. I feel so silly looking for actual plot or character development in a movie nominated...

'Black Panther' makes Oscar history with best picture nod

I am trying to decide whether
A) the films in 2018 were just so bad that Black Panther got in by being 'Least Awful' ,
B) the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is that stupid,
C) Both

I am leaning towards 'C'.

It's a shame that partisans on both sides are so intellectually bankrupt that they are incapable of discussing policy, because Kamala deserves all the scorn that can be heaped upon her for her tenure as California AG alone. Should she become the Democratic Candidate, that record will be seen as a p...

Wet snow is heavy and nearly breaks your back, but it is better to do it while still wet than try to blast it out when the temperature drops below freezing.

OTOH, three feet of powder at -10° F with a 20 mph wind isn't exactly recreational, either.

For what it's worth, one of my friends was really excited about the WWI movie, and then really disappointed when he saw it in theaters.
The trailer gives me a 'Schindler's List' vibe in the sense that I am about to see something truly horrifying.

I'd go with both. I don't think she could have gotten a better deal* from Europe, but she handled the politics of it so ineptly (see the 2017 general election) that she made last Tuesday's defeat almost inevitable. *I know we talked about it earlier and I know Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Jacob R...

The Blues don't give a shit about the Dreamers or the children separated from families beyond how they can manipulate the issue to get votes. By your reckoning, does anybody genuinely care about anything? Among the political class, no. The Blues proved that by their silence during Obama's drone war...

Yeah. One of the big problems libertarians have is that they keep forecasting depressions that don't happen. We're the Chicken Littles of economics.

(I do think there will be a shit-hits-the-fan moment, but libertarians will be just as surprised as everyone else.)
