Am I the only one watching the Good Place? Because that show is terrific.
Just watched 2 seasons of it. Wasn't sure at the beginning if I would like it but now I can't wait for Season 3.

I want fewer voters, not more. Like maybe no votes for employees of any level of government. Or require that voters had to be born in the lower 48 and all parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were US citizens (tough luck for you, McCain and George Romney!). Re: Temporal disenfranchisement: a minor election-fairness i

It didn't make me angry. I just wanted to know why you have such a simplistic reaction to things that any study of history would show are meaningless. Perhaps it is because you are are young and naive and have no actual experience of the real world. If that is so, perhaps I have misjudged you and pe...

Re: Temporal disenfranchisement: a minor election-fairness i

I don't understand why they don't do it already, and especially in Alaska, where I imagine there can be some real world barriers to getting to a voting booth in November within the arctic circle... Because we have exactly 3 electoral votes. Also, our votes have never been contested as this is a win...

Another random-ish thought I had regarding recent elections: does this prove that America is actually less racist than it is sexist? I think it might actually be. So are you trying to attribute Hillary's loss to sexism? Because I don't see any evidence that her gender was her problem. I don't actua...

Re: Temporal disenfranchisement: a minor election-fairness i

Jesus fucking Christ, Jennifer, are you really this fucking stupid? "Calling" the election (by TV networks and other media) before Alaskans and Hawaiians is not the same as declaring the election won. All those poor benighted people have to do to make their "votes count" (which individually, they wi...

Re: America Votes: 2016 Edition

Why do you think that Trump's election will have anything to do with same-sex marriage in the USA? Because Pence is extremely anti-gay and anti-gay marriage, the RNC's current platform is also firmly opposed to the decision, and Obergefell only passed 5-4. Definitely disappointed in Johnson. I expected much better from him than a Sarah Palin level performance. For Christ's sake, if you think you;'re ready for the big leagues, the least you could do is train for them. As for Bill weld, I could've accepted him if he had said something to the affect that...

Re: America Votes: 2016 Edition

Question for legal or constitutional scholars: if they do indeed succeed in getting a Supreme Court that'll overturn Obergefell, will currently existing gay marriages be "grandfathered in?" Or will the family values party succeed in forcibly dissolving families it doesn't like? Not a constitutional...

I can't say that I'm pleased with Trump's win but I am absolutely ecstatic - more happy than I have been in years - at Hillary's defeat.

I wish they both could have lost but as the Stones sang "You can't always get what you want*".

*interestingly the song that the Donald chose for his own.

Re: America Votes: 2016 Edition

An interesting question is whether the Clinton boosters will face much in the way of consequences within Team Blue. If Blues had brains, they'd be looking very hard at everyone who sold them Clinton. Like my newly-reelected representative, the Honorable Debbie Wasserman Schultz. I was going to poin...

Re: Erdo-Gone!? The Turkish Coup Thread

Isn't Turkey a bit like Thailand where the military occasionally performs a coup just to air out government house. From wikipedia: The single-party period ended in 1945. It was followed by a tumultuous transition to multiparty democracy over the next few decades, which was interrupted by military c...

Re: OFFS: The Forsakening

I am not exactly sure why there is any greater problem with spouses in a plural marriage who die intestate than there is with monogamous spouses who die intestate. In the absence of a will or trust or some other arrangement the spouse is generally considered to be the heir and successor. The fact th...

Re: Questions for the Grylliade Non-Hive Mind

You could try removing a threshold and looking underneath. Sometimes a doorway or a transition from one floor covering to another has a little strip of wood to cover any gaps/hold down the carpet. That is called a threshold. Usually you can unscrew it to have a peek underneath. If it is real wood, ...
