Re: Does Elon's Musk stink?

I'm in L.A. right now for the annual National League of Cities "City Summit" conference, and today Elon Musk came to speak to us. He actually seemed less weird in person than his public/online persona would suggest... or maybe just more *understandably* weird. When L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti asked him...

So why does Finland exist?
It's so sadly neglected and often ignored. But it's the country where I want to be.
I don't have much to contribute to the man conversation, but I just want you to know, Thoreau, that this reference did not go unnoticed. Finland has it all. :)

I thought I was the only one who was anti DST
I'm fervently anti DST.* And I make too big a deal about it. :)

EDIT: Actually, I'm anti the switch back and forth. Pick one -- either one -- and stick with it. Everything else is a deadweight loss.

While reading this discussion, I've been once again reminded that you Grylliader types tend to think longer and deeper about policy consequences than a goodly number of the ...

Mirrors? And that has the extra bonus of making the room look bigger, and therefore making messes look bigger, thus compelling you to clean them up when they're only half as big as they look, thus making the cleanup time take half as long as expected, and thus making cleaning up messes less miserab...

Was it drama about a naked man modeling a finished knitting project? I heard there was a dustup on Ravelry about that (and yes, obviously it made me want to immediately join Ravelry). I don't know your inlaws, but be very careful about your state's landlord-tenant laws. If the inlaws get shitty and decide that you've illegally evicted them by not giving the legally required notice, you could end up in court. Sounds crazy, but happens. A lot. Huh. Wife's friend said something alo...

I agree. I think a 20% increase in playing field dimensions would do a lot of good in most sports. Unsure if needed as much in the NFL. Except soccer, where they should probably shrink the field 20%. Increasing everything by 20% would leave more open space and therefore provide more scoring opportu...

Re: Petty annoyances

People like to take pictures for Yelp, reviews on Google, etc. However, at bars, the most common picture seems to be "glass of beer with bar behind it". Dear people: pretty much every glass of beer at a bar looks exactly like every other glass of beer at a bar. Stop taking that picture, because it ...

My sixteen-year-old son recently shared a fun little activity with me... every time you read a "Florida man" headline, don't look at the picture, and mentally read them as all being about the same person: "Florida-Man", a would-be superhero with terrible decision-making skills.
