Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Dude is pretty well known partisan judge and his logic that a $0 mandate is the lynchpin of O-Care is pretty questionable. Especially, if the op-ed about it by a pair of law profs at CWRU (which totally looks like it's Welsh for "squirrel" or something) is correct, since the idea that it is the lyn...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Federal judge in Texas rules individual mandate unconstitutional. https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/14/politics/texas-aca-lawsuit/index.html I have not read the specific details of this ruling, but my gut is to agree with it. The mandate was my primary complaint about O-care in the first place: I have no...

Re: There must be a pony in here somewhere.

Medicare reimbursements are about 80% of private insurance. Interestingly, I hung out with a friend of mine who said that O-care saved hospitals a ton of money because costs associated with EMTALA went away. So without looking at reduced costs (say administrative costs) it’s difficult to say what t...

Re: Music for the Masses

In a just world, absolute shit like The Darkness would never have recorded an album and everybody would know Uncle Acid. The Darkness were always just a novelty act, weren't they? I certainly haven't heard anything from them since 2002, maybe '03. Whenever "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" and "Gi...

Kirk Cousins is so anti-clutch that if you allowed clutch to come in contact with him, it would cause an explosion that would crack the Earth's crust. I read a really good article breaking him down a couple weeks ago. Basically the guy's a robot. On planned throws his timing and mechanics are perfe...

Re: Home $weet Home

Shelving-instead-of-cabinets is okay, if and only if you have a very effective hood over the stove. There is gas to the home, so it may be possible to retrofit a gas stove, but man I'm trying to think how you'd put in a hood over that stove without destroying the aesthetic, and coming up with things...

This is a review of the Chase and Sanborn coffee can, not the coffee itself: of all the metal coffee cans I've converted into emergency space heaters, this can is probably the best because, while it has pretty much the same width as any standard-sized coffee can, it is several inches shorter from t...

Also, weird tangent: I've a few times run into European lefties online who went on about how minimum wage laws don't exist in Europe because unions negotiate minimum wages privately. Naturally, this is completely false, with most European countries having statutory minimum wages, but I wonder how s...

I also wonder if superhero fatigue is going to finally start setting in at some point. I don't plan on seeing every Marvel movie as they come out as I did a few years ago. I'll wait for the reviews and make a decision. And in most cases if I do decide I need to see it, I'm still waiting for blu-ray...

As part of the post-mortem lionization of GHWB, CNN published his successor letter to Clinton , making me wonder what Trump's letter will be like, if he even writes one. If Trump loses in 2020, the eleven weeks between the election and the inauguration of his successor are going to be epic Trumpism...

You've gotta admit, though, if you want your time in office to look like the Golden Age of America, you've just gotta do two things: 1) Follow George W. Bush. 2) Precede Donald Trump. All else will be obscured by the divine light radiating from the Halo of Not Being Either of Those Guys. Only Donal...

Yeah, Michael [Scott] coming up to Pam's desk and pounding on it going "PAM! PAMPAMPAM!" is cringey, not least because my boss then decided to do it to our coworker named Pam. So if you've had a childish wants-to-be-one-of-the-guys boss, or just a roommate/friend with boundary issues that's cringe i...

It’s too absurd for cringe. The cringe comes from too close for comfort.

I usually find cringe comedy so uncomfortable I have to leave the room. Is that re: Frasier or P&R? The prototype is like Arrested Development or the office. P&R has that.
